Wego & news.com.au look to inspire Australian’s to travel again

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Today Wego & News.com.au officially announced the launch of ‘Holiday Deals’, powered by Wego at http://holidaydeals.news.com.au.

It’s a great location for the Wego deals as it now allows the news.com.au users to not only access their great travel editorial, photos, news stories & holiday ideas for travel inspiration, but they can also now find out where some of the best travel deals are on the web thanks to the Wego Deals, offering inspiration from a price or value perspective.

Just like on Wego, on ‘Holiday Deals’, travellers can choose to view the latest Flight Deals, Hotels Deals and Package Deals as well as the Top Deals from all three areas.

So although travel confidence has taken a bit of a beating over the past couple of months, we are certainly starting to see some great deals as travel operators try to stimulate the market again. In fact, in Australia domestic fares are some of the lowest seen in over a decade or more.

While for international destinations that have really been struggling because of the big bad ugly GFC, we are starting to see prices drop significantly to some of those regions that may have been difficult to consider due to currency fluctuations. However with prices like these, there are really some great savings around at the moment.

All of which you can find either on Wego or via the new Holiday Deals page with news.com.au!

2009 is the International year of Astronomy. So while you are gazing up at the stars tonight and wondering if we will ever travel into space or to another galaxy (NASA & Mr Branson etc excluded), have a think about all the mysteries and wonder of all the places you are yet to see on that little round thing below your feet we call Earth.

Perhaps the deals you can find on Wego & Holiday Deals on news.com.au will help inspire you to spark up that little explorer’s fire within us all and venture out to experience the wonderful world of travel again.

Our super squirrels will help you find the best deals around!

Wego has recently collaborated with The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and Qais to launch a Singapore-centric meta-search engine that aims to promote travel in and out of the country and market Changi Airport as a world-class hub.

ViaSingapore.com, is being promoted in Australia, China, Indonesia, India and the UK through a digital campaign run on TripAdvisor, Virtual Tourist, Lonely Planet and Google.

ViaSingapore offers tools to compare airfare deals and track flight information from Changi Airport provided through a partnership with us at www.wego.com. It includes information on hotel rates as well as editorial and user-generated content including travel guides and blogs, videos and uploaded images.

Wego’s Launch Party in Sydney

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

We invite you backstage to the Wego Green Room to take a look at the pictures from the big launch of wego.com.au in Sydney.

The launch took place at the Shangri-La Hotel on the 29th July at the EyeforTravel conference ( http://events.eyefortravel.com/smapac/?q=smapac ) where Wego was one of the two major sponsors.

Wego was also the exclusive cocktail party  sponsor that was on the first day and we certainly ensured that everyone in one way or another went home green with envy with what Wego has to offer!

It was a great start for Wego in Australia, with a great little gathering of the travel industry. Enjoy the pics.

You can also of course view them on our Facebook page at

Wego.com is Website of the Month

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Wego.com is website of the month on TimeOut Singapore. In the article, TimeOut Singapore covers Wego’s name change and how using the travel search engine’s price comparison features would benefit travellers in general

“Wego’s transformation is that it gives you from the outset the base fare alongside the real fare (inclusive of fuel surcharges and other taxes), and lets you compare prices offered by the hitherto unchallenged www.zuji.com. With such transparency, Wego might be the new travel guru to follow.”

We go play paintball!

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

After months of tight deadlines launching Wego, the team decided to have some fun and release deep-seated pressure and stress in a game of paintball. As soon as we got to the Red Dynasty Paintball Park, the geeks turned into soldiers complete with their uniforms and the ladies transformed into Angelina Jolie incarnates as they lead a team of armed men ready to shoot and duck at their command (or not…)

There are 3 rounds of paintball and every round gets harder with goals getting more complicated, requiring more shooting and pumped-up adrenaline .  The next scenes appear to have come from a war movie as players boldly run from their hiding places shooting like action stars, rolling on the grass, doing their Rambo moves, while some just hid in their turf occasionaly firing their marker to unsuspecting targets.

At the end of the day it doesnt really matter who shot the most number of enemies or who got the less number of wounds but that everyone didn’t mind getting dirty and sweaty to play this game of the brave. The bruises, wounds and aching old muscles are only some of the souvenirs of paintball, but the real keepsake is the chance to bond with the team and for some, to shoot at that person who keeps bothering them at work (Peace!)

Paintball day was capped by a sumptuous dinner at Sunset Grill and Bar which serves the best buffalo wings. Their buffalo wings have increasing level of spicyness that ranges from 1 to 10 with 10 as the uber spicy.  We were warned that level 3 is almost unbearable in spicyness but our hungry paintball players wanted some more challenge and tried the level 10. Those who took a bite of the forbidden chicken wing ended up drinking more milk than they could have wanted… but that’s another story.

Planning and action!

wego.com gets some Channel NewsAsia love

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

For those of you who missed it, Wego.com was featured this morning in the “Surf Time” segment of Channel NewsAsia’s “Primetime Morning” show. The segment was aired twice and simulcast both on CNA and Channel 5. Catch the video here:

My only complaint was they didn’t show any ‘live’ searches nor anything about Hotels.
