Last week during one of our monthly meetings, a group of us were asked to poll which was the favorite holiday destination for travelers in Sydney. We all chipped in and I thought why not open this poll up to everyone, it might be a fun exercise just to see what we feel is the top travel destination for citizens in a particular city.

This is a 1st of a series of weekly polls that Wego will be posting in the coming months. The poll would run for 7 days and at the end of each poll, we will release the results together with our internal search data to see determine the winning destination.

Update: Here are the results of the poll – The city with most number of votes is Melbourne, Australia with 27%. Followed by Bali, Indonesia with 22%. And now for the moment of truth, if you have selected Melbourne, you are right! Are there Hotels in Sydney Under $60? While there are indeed some great values on Hotel Deals in Sydney, Australia, you will be hard pressed to discover hotels in Sydney for under 60 dollars per night. However, that does not mean that they do not exist or you cannot still get great deals on hotels in Sydney, it just means that you have to look a little bit harder for them.

In the land of Oz or Australia, these are often known as budget or economy hotels. While the name itself is not any different, it does make a difference. Being a Yank in Oz, you will often find yourself in a position where colloquialisms may make it difficult to understand and be understood. However, when it comes to getting a great deal on a hotel room in Sydney, you have to be heard and understood if you want to get bargain rate for a hotel room.

If you are young and adventurous, you may be in luck. There are three Hostels located in Sydney that cater to the young, international traveler. All of these facilities do offer room rates for under sixty dollars per night. They are the City Resort Hostel, Footprints Westend Hostel and the Funk House Backpackers Hotel. You will very likely have to share restroom facilities and you may have to give up some of the other creature comforts that you would expect from a traditional hotel as well.

The Hostels do not generally have restaurant facilities on site but in this case, they are well situated where you should have no problem finding something to eat. Additionally, linen changes for your bed will not occur every day the way they do in some hotels, but rather once a week. If you are looking for a more traditional room, you may not have many options but if you are going to be in Sydney for any length of time, you can actually get deals much better than sixty dollars per night.

Boarding Houses are a very popular alternative to high-priced hotel rooms in Sydney. Boarding Houses are also available for around two-hundred Australian dollars per week or about one-hundred and sixty US dollars for a week’s stay in Sydney. Some of the Boarding Houses in Sydney will offer you many of the regular amenities such as food or even private restroom facilities on occasion but you will very likely have to pay more for these “luxuries”.

If none of these options suits your needs for a trip to Sydney Australia, for an extra twenty-dollar bill per night, you can find many great hotel deals in Sydney. Hotel rooms between eighty and one-hundred dollars a night are easy to find in Sydney Australia. There are plenty of Economy Chain hotels where rooms can be found in this price range as well as some smaller, privately held hotels.
