What is a Pakistan 10 year passport?

The Pakistani passport is issued in two main validity periods: a 10-year passport and a 5-year passport, with the former offering a longer validity duration. Despite this difference, both passports provide similar facilities and legal standing.

Furthermore, Pakistani passports are issued in two formats, including Machine Readable Passports (MRP) and e-Passports. The distinguishing feature of an e-Passport is its inclusion of an electronic chip. This chip securely stores the passport holder’s biometric data along with other essential information. Its contactless nature enables electronic reading, enhancing convenience and security during travel.

Choosing between these passport types ultimately boils down to personal preference and specific travel needs.

10 year passport rule for Pakistani travelers to Europe

When planning to travel to the European Union, it is crucial for Pakistani travelers to understand and comply with the “10-Year Passport Rule.” This rule ensures the security and validity of travel documents for individuals entering EU countries.

According to this rule, your Pakistani passport must meet the following criteria:

  • issue date: Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the EU country. This means if your passport was issued more than 10 years ago, it will not be accepted for travel to EU nations, regardless of its expiration date.
  • validity beyond departure: Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the EU country. This ensures that travelers have a sufficient validity period on their passports for the entirety of their stay, plus a buffer period.

Complying with these requirements is essential to avoid any issues at immigration checkpoints. Ensuring your passport meets these criteria will help prevent travel disruptions and guarantee a smooth entry and exit from EU countries.

Please make sure to always check your passport’s issue date and remaining validity before planning your trip to Europe to align with these regulations.
