The 1448 AH season window
Umrah runs almost year-round but stops each year for the Hajj season. These are the dates the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has published for 1448 AH:
- 31 May 2026: Umrah visa issuance opened for the season
- 1 June 2026: entry to Makkah opened and Nusuk permits began being issued
- 8 February 2027: Ramadan begins, the busiest and most expensive window of the year
- 9 March 2027: last day an Umrah visa is issued for this season
- 23 March 2027: last day pilgrims may enter the Kingdom
- 7 April 2027: all Umrah pilgrims must have left the Kingdom

What you need before you go
- A visa that permits Umrah. The Ministry has confirmed that holders of all valid visa types may perform Umrah while in the Kingdom, tourist eVisas included. You do not necessarily need a dedicated Umrah visa.
- An Umrah permit from Nusuk. This is separate from your visa and separate from your travel booking. Without it, entry to Masjid al-Haram may be refused even with a valid visa.
- Proof of MenACWY vaccination. Required for every pilgrim of every nationality, given at least 10 days before you arrive.
- A Nusuk-linked hotel booking. An Umrah visa cannot be issued without confirmed accommodation registered on the official platform.

Is Umrah open right now?

The last Umrah visas for this season are issued on 9 March 2027. The final day to enter the Kingdom is 23 March 2027, and every Umrah pilgrim must have departed by 7 April 2027. Umrah then pauses for the Hajj season.
Do I need a Nusuk permit if I already have a visa?
Yes. The permit and the visa are two separate things, and booking a package does not replace either. Your Umrah permit is issued through the Nusuk platform, and only one can be active at a time. If you are visiting Madinah, a Rawdah visit needs its own permit.
Can a woman perform Umrah without a mahram?
Yes. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah states in its own guidance that a woman may come and perform Umrah without a male guardian. Any Muslim aged 18 or older can perform Umrah.
Can I drive to Saudi Arabia instead of flying?
Yes, if you are travelling from a neighbouring country with an open land crossing. The drive from Dubai to Makkah is roughly 1,850 km and takes about 16 to 18 hours, so most people split it over two days. You still need a valid visa and an Umrah permit booked in the Nusuk app, and you should confirm the current status of your intended crossing before setting out.
