Booster dose required to enter Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi officials have now declared a new entry rule for all inbound travellers into the emirate. People entering the city will now need to have been vaccinated with a booster dose. The third dose is necessary to maintain the Green Pass on Al Hosn app, as a requirement to enter the emirate.
The rule applies to those who have been administered with only two doses of a UAE-approved Covid-19 vaccine.
In case a person has received a Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as a booster dose after taking two doses of Sinopharm, they will still need to take another booster dose if it has been 6 months since the last jab.
What if you haven’t had a booster dose?
Alternatively, visitors can opt to enter with a negative PCR test report taken within 96 hours. This will provide them with a Green Pass status for 3 days.
How the Green Pass works is that the digital pass will maintain the green color code after the user is administered with their booster dose, provided they have also received a recent negative PCR test taken every 14 days.
In case a fully vaccinated individual has not undertaken a negative PCR test within that period, their app colour status changes to grey, regardless of whether they have already received a booster dose. Unvaccinated individuals are required to undertake a PCR test more often to maintain the green status.
Any person who has received their second dose within the last six months can still maintain their Green Pass status, despite not yet having a booster, as long as they possess a recent negative PCR test result.
The Green Pass on Al Hosn permits holders to freely enter public spaces.
Who is eligible for booster dose in the UAE?
UAE residents over the age of 18, who have taken their initial vaccine doses and have completed six months after taking their second jab are eligible for a booster.
Government workers in Abu Dhabi also need to be fully vaccinated along with a booster dose to enter their workplaces. UAE residents who wish to travel internationally will also need to have their booster vaccine dose administered.
