The New Nonstop and What It Costs
Air Astana flies nonstop between Almaty and Langkawi from 25 December 2026, three times a week. Kazakhstan’s Transport Ministry announced the seasonal route, Kazakhstan Today reports, and the airline says tickets are on sale.
From Almaty, the nonstop was the cheapest fare we found. In our January sample it cost USD 124 less than AirAsia X via Kuala Lumpur and saved more than four hours. From Langkawi, AirAsia X was USD 49 cheaper but took about 15 hours longer.
The return leaves Langkawi at 09:40, 90 minutes after the Almaty flight lands, so it runs the morning after each Almaty departure. The aircraft is an Airbus A321LR, and flights drop to twice a week from 7 February to 6 March 2027, according to the schedule published by AeroRoutes. Aviation press reports list the last flight in late March.
Getting the Timing Right
- Arriving at 08:10: the overnight flight lands hours before a usual hotel check-in, so ask about early check-in or book the room from the night before.
- Leaving Langkawi at 09:40: you reach Almaty at 14:40 the same day, which makes this a direct option for Malaysians planning a winter trip to Kazakhstan.
- Flying time: about 7 hours 35 minutes to Langkawi and 8 hours back. Langkawi is three hours ahead of Almaty.

Entry Rules and Baggage Before You Book

- Malaysia Digital Arrival Card: foreign visitors must register online on the official MDAC portal.
- Cash: declare cash above the equivalent of USD 10,000 to Malaysian customs.
- Malaysians flying to Almaty: you can visit Kazakhstan visa-free for up to 30 days, says the Embassy of Malaysia in Astana.
- Baggage: the allowance depends on the fare type, so check it on the fare screen before you pay.
The Almaty flight lands in Langkawi at 08:10, so book your room from the night before if you want to check in straight away. The return lands in Almaty mid-afternoon.
