The New Nonstop and What It Costs
Air Astana starts nonstop flights between Astana and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi on 11 December 2026, twice a week on an Airbus A321LR, Kazakhstan’s Transport Ministry said, as the Central Communications Service reports.
The nonstop was the cheapest fare we found from both ends. In our January sample it cost USD 235 less than Air China via Beijing from Astana and USD 320 less from Bangkok, and it saves more than ten hours each way.
Kazakhstan’s other direct flights to Thailand leave from Almaty and Shymkent. With Astana added, there will be 20 flights a week between the two countries on four routes, according to the ministry.
Getting the Timing Right
- Leaving Astana in the evening: flights leave at around 21:00 on Tuesdays and Fridays and land in Bangkok around 07:00, so you arrive with a full day ahead.
- Leaving Bangkok in the morning: flights leave at around 08:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so plan to reach Suvarnabhumi by about 05:00.
- Flying time: about 7 hours 45 to 50 minutes to Bangkok and 8 hours 25 to 30 minutes back, depending on the day. Bangkok is two hours ahead of Astana.
- Trip length: with flights on two days a week, a Friday to Wednesday trip gives you four nights, and a Tuesday to Saturday trip three.
Visas and Arrival Card Before You Book
- Kazakh citizens visiting Thailand: you can stay up to 30 days without a visa under the two countries’ agreement, as listed in Thailand’s visa exemption rules from 15 September 2026. See our Thailand visa-free rules by passport for other nationalities.
- Passport and stay limits: your passport needs at least six months’ validity, and visa-free stays are capped at 90 days in any six months, according to the Thai government.
- Thailand Digital Arrival Card: every foreign visitor fills it in online and submits it three days before the arrival date, says Thailand’s Immigration Bureau.
- Thai citizens visiting Kazakhstan: the same agreement gives you up to 30 days per visit without a visa, within the 90-days-in-six-months limit.
- Baggage: the allowance depends on the fare type, so check it on the fare screen before you pay.
The Astana flight lands in Bangkok at around 07:00, so book your room from the night before if you want to check in and rest straight away.
