Bahrain Long Weekends 2026 and 2027 Travel Plan: Where to Go and Stay?

On the expected dates, 6 consecutive days for no annual leave at all, and 9 for a single leave day. That is the best arithmetic on this page and it comes from two things Bahrain does that its neighbours mostly do not. First, the holiday is four days, not three: Arafat Day on the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah is granted on top of the three Eid days, as it was in 2022 and 2023. Second, the run is expected to start on a Sunday, so the Friday and Saturday before it come free. Add Thursday 20 May as your one leave day and the block runs Friday 14 to Saturday 22 May. For comparison, Qatar’s private sector needs two leave days to reach nine and Kuwait has no equivalent window at all.

No, and this is where Bahrain differs sharply from Qatar. Article 64 of Law No. 36 of 2012, the Labour Law for the Private Sector, does not list the holidays at all: it gives private-sector workers paid leave on "holidays and official holidays determined by virtue of the Council of Ministers’ decision based on the Minister’s proposal". One decision, one list, both sectors, which is why the table above has a single column where the Qatar version of this page needs two. Two related points are worth knowing. Official holidays are a separate entitlement from your 30 days of annual leave and cannot be deducted from it. And Article 57 guarantees only ONE weekly rest day and names Friday, not Friday and Saturday, so every figure here assumes the two-day weekend that Bahrain’s government and most of its private sector actually work.

No. Every Hijri date on this page is expected and stays that way until the sighting, and Bahrain’s Council of Ministers confirms by circular, usually within a fortnight of the holiday. The dates here are the Wego calendar’s, which puts Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday 10 March 2027, Arafat Day on Sunday 16 May and the first Ashoora day on Tuesday 15 June. A reading one day earlier is entirely possible and Wego’s own Bahrain Eid al-Adha guide uses it, so it is worth knowing what it changes. Eid al-Adha would run Saturday 15 to Tuesday 18 May, which is 5 days off rather than 6, because Arafat Day would land on a Saturday and be absorbed by the weekend. If that Saturday then earned a replacement day the break is back to 6. Eid al-Fitr goes the other way and gets better: it would run Tuesday 9 to Saturday 13 March, 5 days rather than 4. Ashoora is unaffected either way, still two days midweek and still five with one leave day.

Usually, but not always, a replacement day is announced, and the distinction matters because you cannot book a flight on an announcement. For the private sector Article 64 is explicit: where an official holiday coincides with the Friday weekly rest day, the worker "shall be granted another day instead". For the public sector it comes by circular. The clearest recent case is Ashoora 2025, when the first day fell on Saturday 5 July and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s circular of 2 July compensated it with a holiday on Monday 7 July. But it is announced case by case, it has not been granted every time, and it usually arrives days ahead. So every bolded figure on this page assumes no replacement day, and the day strip in the planner draws the possible one as a dashed outline rather than a day you can count. On Eid al-Fitr, the window both networks serve in full, Dammam is cheaper on eight of the thirteen destinations both airports fly and Bahrain on five. The widest gap each way is large enough to decide the trip: Cairo costs BHD 142 less per adult from Dammam, Doha costs BHD 187 less from Bahrain. Eid al-Adha itself reverses it, and not by a little. Dammam sells a nonstop to only ten of the seventeen destinations on the board that week against Bahrain’s sixteen, where on Eid al-Fitr they sell fourteen and fourteen. That week is also the Hajj fortnight. Whatever the reason, on the one window with the most days off, the home airport is the one with a board to choose from. The networks are different shapes too: Kochi, Bangkok and Manila never sell one from Dammam, and Islamabad turns up from Bahrain on only one of the four. Then weigh three things against any saving. You need Saudi entry, which not every Bahrain resident holds. It is roughly 100 km by road including the King Fahd Causeway, with a toll each way. And causeway queues at Eid are the worst of the year, so a two-hour drive can become a five-hour one on exactly the dates this page is about. Use the toggle at the top of the planner to price both.

If it is annual leave, National Day 2026 is unbeatable: 16 and 17 December fall Wednesday and Thursday, so with the weekend you get 4 consecutive days for nothing, and it is a fixed Gregorian date with no sighting to wait for. If it is time rather than leave, Eid al-Adha 2027 is the one, at 6 days free and 9 for one leave day. If you want the best return on a single day of leave, Ashoora is the sleeper: two days midweek reaches nowhere, but one leave day on Thursday 17 June turns it into 5. And June 2027 is worth a second look whichever you choose, because the Islamic New Year on Sunday 6 June and Ashoora nine days later put two separate breaks in the same fortnight.

Arafat Day is granted on top of the three Eid al-Adha days rather than folded into them. Add the Islamic New Year, the Prophet’s Birthday, a two-day National Day, New Year’s Day and Labour Day and the total is ten occasions to the end of 2027, against four in Qatar.
