Citizens of more than 70 countries can visit Belarus without a visa in 2026, thanks to multiple overlapping visa-free programmes covering European nationals, airport arrivals, and bilateral treaty holders.

The rules differ depending on your nationality, how you enter (by air, road, or rail), and how long you plan to stay.

38 European Countries: Visa-Free Entry via All Border Crossings

The broadest visa-free programme covers 38 European countries whose citizens can enter Belarus by air, road, or rail through any international border crossing point.

You can stay for up to 30 days per entry, with a maximum total of 90 visa-free days per calendar year. Citizens of Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia (including Latvian non-citizens) get an extended stay of up to 90 days per entry.

This programme is valid until 31 December 2026 and allows unlimited entries within that period. However, it does not apply to holders of diplomatic, service, or special passports.

One important restriction: you cannot transit onward to Russia under this visa-free regime. If your final destination is Russia, you will need a separate visa arrangement.

76 Countries: Visa-Free Entry via Airports Only

A separate programme allows citizens of 76 countries to enter Belarus visa-free for up to 30 days — but only when arriving and departing through one of Belarus’s six designated airports.

The eligible airports are Minsk National Airport (MSQ), Airport Brest, Airport Gomel, Airport Grodno, Airport Mogilev, and Airport Vitebsk. You must enter and exit by air through these airports only.

Countries marked with * face additional requirements. Citizens of Egypt, Gambia, Haiti, India, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Namibia, Pakistan, Samoa, South Africa, and Vietnam must also hold a valid multiple-entry EU or Schengen visa with a border-crossing stamp, plus a confirmed air ticket departing Belarus within 30 days.

Note that the United States is not included in either the 38-country European programme or the 76-country airport programme. US citizens need a visa or an e-visa to enter Belarus.

What You Need to Bring

A valid ordinary passport (must be valid at least 90 days beyond your planned departure from Belarus)
Proof of finances: at least 2 base rates per day of stay, or 50 base rates if staying the full 30 days (in Belarusian rubles or foreign currency)
Medical insurance with minimum €10,000 coverage, valid in Belarus for the entire stay

Bilateral Visa-Free Agreements

Beyond the European and airport programmes, Belarus has permanent bilateral visa-free agreements with around 20 countries.

These operate independently of the programmes above and typically have no expiry date.

According to the Belarus Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citizens of these countries can enter Belarus visa-free under bilateral treaties:

Unlimited stay: Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan (CIS mobility agreements)
Up to 90 days: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Israel (90 days per 180-day period), Mongolia, UAE, Venezuela
Up to 30 days or treaty-specific terms: Albania (up to 30 days per entry, up to 90 days per year), China (including Hong Kong and Macau SARs), Cuba, Ecuador, Georgia, Laos, Moldova, Montenegro, Oman, Qatar, Serbia, Türkiye, Vietnam

China’s arrangement is particularly notable: Chinese citizens can stay in Belarus for up to 30 days per entry, capped at 90 days per calendar year. Hong Kong SAR passport holders get 30 days per period of stay, while Macao SAR passport holders get up to 30 days per entry, capped at 90 days per calendar year.

Registration Rules You Must Follow

Entering Belarus visa-free does not exempt you from registration requirements. If you stay longer than 10 working days, you must register with the local citizenship and migration office or online through the Unified portal for electronic services.

If you’re staying at a hotel, hostel, or sanatorium, the accommodation handles registration for you automatically at check-in. Registration is only your responsibility if you’re staying at a private residence.

Some nationalities are exempt from the 10-day rule under separate bilateral agreements. Citizens of Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia, Kazakhstan, and the UAE can stay up to 30 days without registering, while Russian citizens can stay up to 90 days without registration.

You can register online for free through the unified portal for electronic services. However, travellers arriving from Russia cannot use the online system and must register in person at a migration office.

Important Restrictions and Travel Advisories

While Belarus has made visa-free access easier, there are several restrictions and safety considerations travellers should be aware of before planning a trip.

No transit to Russia: Under both the European and airport visa-free programmes, you cannot use visa-free entry to transit through Belarus to Russia. Flights between Belarus and Russia are treated as domestic and have no border control — meaning your visa-free entry won’t be processed if you arrive from or depart to Russia.
