Do Belizeans need a visa for Spain?

Yes. If you’re travelling on an ordinary Belize passport, you need a Schengen visa to visit Spain for tourism, business, or a family visit.

This hasn’t changed. On 14 July 2026, Spain published a list of countries whose citizens can travel visa-free — but Belize’s own Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the list simply restated countries already exempt under EU law.

Belize wasn’t one of them, and still needs a full EU regulation change to become visa-free.

This guide covers ordinary passports and was checked on 22 July 2026. Diplomatic passport holders, and family members of EU citizens, may have different rules — check with the embassy if either applies to you.

Which visa do you need, and how do you apply?

For a trip of up to 90 days — a holiday, business trip, family visit, or short course — you need a short-stay Schengen visa (also called a Type C visa). Anything longer, or any paid work, needs a different Spanish national visa instead.

The Embassy of Spain in Guatemala handles Schengen visa applications for Belizean travellers. Email [email protected] with “Att. Cita Visado” in the subject line to book an appointment, then travel to Guatemala City to submit your documents in person.

If your trip covers more than one Schengen country, apply through whichever country is your main destination.

Having a visa doesn’t guarantee entry; border officers can still ask about your trip, funds, and return plans, and will check your visa dates and the 90-days-in-180 limit. That limit covers all Schengen countries combined, so time in Spain, France, and Portugal on one trip all counts toward the same total.

When to apply

You can apply up to 6 months before you travel, and should apply at least 15 days before departure. Processing normally takes about 15 days, but can stretch to 45 days if the embassy needs more documents — so build in extra time for the appointment and the trip to Guatemala City.

Proof of funds — Spain’s 2026 minimum is about EUR 122 per day, or at least EUR 1,099 for the trip, shown via bank statements or a sponsor letter.
Evidence you’ll leave before your visa expires.
