Booking tips that actually move the price
Rules that apply to every route
- Nonstop usually beats connecting here. On five of these six routes, the cheapest ticket found was also the nonstop, so you rarely trade time for money. Dubai is the exception: connecting itineraries start at $340, against $430 nonstop, in exchange for a transit of close to nine hours each way instead of under four.
- Check the checked-baggage allowance before comparing a budget fare to a full-service one. One checked bag added to a low-cost fare can erase the entire gap to a full-service ticket that already includes it.
- Pricing one-way? Price that leg on its own rather than assuming it is half of a return fare. Gulf-to-Cairo and Cairo-to-Gulf do not always price the same on the identical aircraft.
Compare neighbouring cities before you commit
- Price Jeddah and Riyadh against each other if your Saudi departure city is flexible. They are the two deepest, most competitive markets on this corridor, and the cheaper of the two is not consistently the same city from one date to the next.
- Abu Dhabi and Dubai sit about 90 minutes apart, and on this date Abu Dhabi’s nonstop is $165 cheaper than Dubai’s. If you can start or end your trip from either airport, price both before committing.
Route quirks worth knowing
- Kuwait to Cairo mixes carriers on its cheapest fare: out with Nile Air, back with Kuwait Airways, at $201, with Jazeera Airways close behind at $215. Book earlier here than on the other routes, too — outbound demand out of Kuwait spikes hardest around Egyptian school holidays and Eid.
- Dammam’s cheapest fare also splits carriers: out with flyadeal, back with Air Cairo, at $214. If Dammam is pricier on your dates, price Riyadh as well, though the extra travel time may erase the saving.
- On the Riyadh route, the budget carrier is currently cheaper than the flag carrier. Flynas prices at $195, about $19 less than Riyadh Air’s $214 nonstop on the same day. Worth comparing both before assuming a new full-service entrant is the better deal.
When to book, and when to fly
This corridor follows the Egyptian expatriate travel calendar, not the European holiday calendar. Use this table to plan how far ahead to book depending on when you want to fly.
| Period | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Late Jun to Aug | Peak. Egyptian schools break and families travel home for the summer. | Book around three months ahead |
| Eid al-Fitr & Eid al-Adha | Short, sharp spikes that can exceed the summer peak on individual dates. | Book three months ahead |
| Oct to Nov, Mar to Apr | Shoulder. Best weather in Cairo and fares well below summer. | Four to eight weeks ahead |
| Mid-Jan to Feb | Low season and the cheapest fares of the year, outside the Egyptian mid-year school break. | Four weeks is usually enough |
The dates priced on this page (14 to 21 October 2026) fall in the October shoulder season, which is part of why fares across the corridor are well below the late-June-to-August peak.
Frequently asked questions
Which Gulf city has the cheapest flights to Cairo?
Jeddah. On the dates priced here, the cheapest nonstop return from Jeddah was $183 on flyadeal, against $430 from Dubai for a flight only about 75 minutes longer.
Is it cheaper to fly to Cairo nonstop or with a connection?
Nonstop, on five of the six routes priced here. Dubai is the exception, where connections started at $340 against $430 nonstop, at the cost of nearly nine hours in transit outbound.
When is the cheapest time of year to fly to Cairo from the Gulf?
Mid-January and February are cheapest, followed by the October and November shoulder. Avoid late June through August and the two Eid holidays, when Egyptian expatriate family travel drives fares to their annual highs.
How far in advance should I book?
Four to eight weeks for shoulder season, and around three months for summer or Eid. Demand on this corridor is heavily family travel that books early and rarely shifts, so late booking is penalised more than on a comparable leisure route.
