Kuala Lumpur is the no-flight option, so a staycation costs you the room alone. Both nights come in under the fare in four of the five cities you would fly to. In Singapore the room is the bigger bill.

When is Deepavali 2026 in Malaysia?
Deepavali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. Because it lands on a Sunday, Monday 9 November is a replacement public holiday in most of the country.
Is Monday 9 November 2026 a public holiday everywhere?
No. The replacement Monday is observed everywhere except Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Sarawak. Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu rest on Friday and Saturday, so Deepavali itself is already their day off. Sarawak does not observe Deepavali as a public holiday at all.
How many leave days turn Deepavali 2026 into a proper holiday?
Four. Taking the four working days after the break gives nine days in a row in most states, and in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu. In Sarawak the same nine days costs five leave days, because Deepavali is a working day there.
Where can I actually get to on a three-day Deepavali break?

Do school holidays fall over Deepavali 2026?
No. The Malaysian school year-end break runs from 5 to 31 December 2026, so the Deepavali weekend is a standalone break and schools are open either side of it.

- Fares are the cheapest nonstop return for one adult in MYR, searched on Wego from Kuala Lumpur on 3 September 2026, with the Malaysian market site code. Nonstop, because the price-sorted feed puts self-connections of 24 hours and more above the nonstop, and those are not real options on a two-night break.
- The three-day list is priced 7 to 9 November and the nine-day list 7 to 15 November, so no journey is priced twice on this page. Readers in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu should shift both windows one day earlier; the search link lets you change the dates.
- Each city shows three hotels from one search over the two nights of 7 to 9 November for two adults, all scoring 8 or better from at least 100 guest reviews, using the provider’s own property type so that hostel and backpacker listings do not undercut the hotels. The three are won on different criteria: cheapest with a three-star floor, a step up with a four-star floor, and best reviewed by highest guest score from at least 500 reviews, or at least 100 where no property in that city is read that widely. The best-reviewed pick is capped at six times the cheapest card so it stays a plausible upgrade rather than a different market: uncapped it returned a resort at 45 times the cheapest room. One property per brand, and the cards are ordered by price. A single cheapest-first rule was tried first and made every card three-star, because a dearer room can never win on price. Kuala Lumpur is priced as a staycation, with no flight.
