Dubai’s Mallathon runs from 15 June to 15 September 2026, turning six malls into free air-conditioned running tracks each morning.
It’s the world’s first Guinness-record fitness event that lets you jog past the shops before they open — no fee, no sign-up.
A Marathon Inside a Shopping Mall
In Dubai’s brutal summer heat, the city throws open its biggest malls at dawn so people can run on cool indoor tracks before the shops open.
It works because Dubai summers regularly top 40°C, with humidity making it feel hotter. Running outside is unsafe, so the city repurposes its vast, climate-controlled malls instead. It’s billed as a world-first.
The debut in August 2025 drew more than 40,000 participants across nine malls, logged over 120 million steps, and even staged a full 42km marathon inside a mall.
That closing event set a Guinness World Record for the most runners in a mall run event — 1,392 runners at Dubai Hills Mall. For a visitor, it’s a genuinely different way to see Dubai at sunrise.
When and Where to Run
The Mallathon runs under the patronage of Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and is organised with the Dubai Sports Council. 2026 is its second edition.
It runs daily from 15 June to 15 September, with sessions open 6:00am to 10:00am before the malls open to shoppers.
Six malls take part this year. Three sit directly on the Dubai Metro; the others are easiest by taxi or ride-hail. Always check the RTA for current routes.
| Mall | Area | Getting There |
|---|---|---|
| The Dubai Mall | Downtown | Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa Metro (Red Line) + link |
| Mall of the Emirates | Al Barsha | Mall of the Emirates Metro (Red Line) |
| Deira City Centre | Deira | City Centre Deira Metro (Red Line) |
| Dubai Hills Mall | Dubai Hills | Taxi or ride-hail |
| Mirdif City Centre | Mirdif | Taxi, bus or ride-hail |
| Dubai Festival City Mall | Festival City | Taxi or ride-hail |
That’s three fewer malls than 2025, but the season is far longer — three full months instead of one.
Note the Mallathon is a summer event, separate from the Dubai Fitness Challenge 30×30, which runs each November.
How to Take Part
Daily participation is completely free, and you don’t register in advance. You simply turn up at a participating mall during opening hours and collect a wristband.
Choose Your Distance
The format suits every fitness level, from a first-timer to a regular runner. You set your own pace and pick how far you go.
- Walk at your own pace — no target, just move
- 2K or 2.5K, 5K or 10K — structured distances to aim for
- One lap at The Dubai Mall is roughly 1.5km, so you stack laps to hit your distance
On-site trainers are on hand at the malls, and there are dedicated sessions for women, senior citizens and People of Determination.
Timed Pro Races
Alongside the free daily sessions, the 2026 calendar adds competitive timed “pro race” days for those who want a real challenge against the clock.
These races do require separate registration through the official Mallathon website, and dates vary by mall — The Dubai Mall, for example, lists race days in late June, August and September.
Check the official site for the schedule at your chosen mall, as race-day timings differ from the regular morning sessions.
Planning a Summer Trip Around It
Summer is Dubai’s quieter, lower-priced season, which makes it an easy time to find deals — and the Mallathon gives early mornings a purpose before the day’s heat sets in.
Because the running happens indoors, the outdoor temperature won’t affect your session. You just need to be at a mall between 6:00am and 10:00am.
Flights and Where to Stay
Most visitors arrive through Dubai International Airport. You can compare flights to Dubai on Wego to line up with the June–September window.
For accommodation, staying near a participating mall makes those early starts painless. Browse hotels in Dubai close to Downtown or Al Barsha to keep the Metro commute short.
Pack light activewear and a comfortable pair of trainers, and you’re set — the rest of your day in Dubai stays free for everything else.
