The visionary Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai recently scrutinized the strategic blueprint of the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects. His approval of the designs for the new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport underscores the city’s commitment to progress and innovation.
Key highlights of the Al-Maktoum International Airport expansion are as follows:
- expanded facilities: Envisioned to be five times larger than the current airport, the new facility will feature five terminals and five parallel runways spread over 70 square kilometers. This expansion will enable the airport to host up to 400 aircraft simultaneously, setting a new standard in aviation infrastructure
- development focus: The airport aims to accommodate 260 million passengers annually, prioritizing sustainability. Various renewable energy sources will be integrated alongside the introduction of multiple public transport systems to reduce the project’s carbon footprint
- technological advancements: Pioneering aviation technologies will be deployed for the first time in the industry, enhancing operational efficiency and passenger experience
- aerotropolis: Beyond the airport’s runways lies a meticulously planned community known as Dubai South. Anticipated to house at least a million residents, this aerotropolis will play a pivotal role in the city’s economic growth, fostering connectivity and prosperity
- economic contribution: The airport and its surrounding city are poised to significantly contribute to the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), aiming for Dubai to become one of the top three largest economies globally by 2033.
