This guide covers which routes and bases are affected, what easyJet’s own policy says about refunds and rebooking, and the exact steps to recover your money or get rerouted.
Which easyJet Routes and Airports Are Affected?
Here is the status picture as of 21 April 2026:
| Disruption | Status | What’s Affected |
|---|---|---|
| London Stansted ABM ground-staff strike (scheduled 17–20 April) | Called off before the action started; Unite suspended the strike to let members vote on an improved pay offer brokered through ACAS | Expected turnaround and passenger-assistance delays at Stansted were avoided; easyJet flights operated to schedule |
| Italy ATC strike (10 April, 13:00–17:00 CET) | Concluded — four-hour ENAV walkout ended the same afternoon; USB Lavoro Privato also called a parallel four-hour easyJet flying-crew strike for the same window | Historical: 15 easyJet cancellations at Milan Malpensa and 44 delays at Rome Fiumicino, alongside wider disruption at Naples, Venice and Bologna |
| easyJet France UNAC cabin-crew strike (Easter Monday, 6 April) | Concluded — 24-hour walkout, 00:01 to 23:59 local time | Historical: all six French bases hit — Paris CDG, Paris Orly, Nice, Lyon, Bordeaux and Nantes. Estimated 25–40% of French flights cancelled on the day |
| easyJet Spain cabin-crew strike (25–27 June) | Upcoming — three-day action called by Spanish union USO; Spain’s Ministry of Transport has announced minimum service levels | 657 cabin crew based at Barcelona, Málaga, Alicante and Palma de Mallorca; dispute centres on pay gap versus crew based in other easyJet European countries |
| UK domestic route reductions | Ongoing — network adjustments following the £2 UK Air Passenger Duty hike | Capacity reduced on selected regional UK domestic sectors; easyJet has simultaneously added 16 new routes from eight UK airports for summer 2026 and opened its first African base in Marrakech |
| Middle East routes (Tel Aviv, Jordan, Egypt) | Separate disruption linked to the March 2026 US-Iran conflict | Covered in full in Wego’s Middle East flight cancellations live blog; not repeated here |
Larger parts of easyJet’s European network — UK, Greece, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands — are continuing to operate normally.
Fuel supply is a separate background risk. easyJet CEO Kenton Jarvis has said that the airline has hedged around 70% of its summer fuel and has not cancelled any flights because of the ongoing jet-fuel crunch, but has warned of possible later-season fare increases if the situation worsens.
How to Check If Your easyJet Flight Is Cancelled
Check two sources before heading to the airport. The situation has moved quickly and your flight status may have changed since your last email.
- Wego flight tracker — the quickest single place to check status. Use the Wego flight tracker or the dedicated easyJet flight tracking page, which pulls live status for every U2-coded flight.
- easyJet.com “Manage Bookings” — log in at easyjet.com with your booking reference and last name. Cancelled flights display the three official options (switch flight, voucher, refund) inside this portal.
- easyJet app — sends push notifications for schedule changes and cancellations; the quickest channel during live disruption.
- Airport departures boards — live boards at Gatwick, Luton, Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol and other bases show real-time gate and cancellation status.
Your Options: Refund, Rebook, or Reroute
easyJet’s own policy gives you three core options when the airline cancels a flight, all accessible through Manage Bookings or the easyJet app.
| Option | Best For | What You Get (per easyJet) |
|---|---|---|
| Switch to another flight for free | Travellers who still need to reach their destination | Free transfer to the next available easyJet flight on the same route, or a flight via a nearby airport in the same country, or an indirect easyJet routing. Paid seat selection and baggage allowance carry across where possible |
| Voucher | Travellers with flexible plans who want future travel credit | A voucher for the full value of your booking, valid 12 months from date of issue, usable anywhere on the easyJet network. easyJet states that taking a voucher ends your right to claim accommodation or other care expenses |
| Refund | Travellers who no longer want or need to fly | Full refund to the original payment method. easyJet’s own help page states refund requests are processed within 7 days and may take a few additional days to reach your bank. As with a voucher, you lose care/expense entitlements once you select this option |
How to Get a Refund from easyJet
easyJet’s refund flow is straightforward if you booked directly, and slightly more involved if you booked through an agent.
If you booked directly with easyJet
- Wait for the cancellation email or SMS from easyJet — it will contain a link to choose your option.
- Log in to Manage Bookings and select “Request a refund” (not “Voucher” or “Switch flight”).
- Confirm the refund request. easyJet refunds to the original payment method.
- Track the status via easyJet’s Track My Refund hub. easyJet states refunds are processed within 7 days; bank clearing typically adds a few more days.
If you booked through a travel agent or OTA
- Contact the agent first — easyJet routes refunds back through the original booking channel.
- Ask the agent in writing to raise the refund with easyJet and confirm when they will pass the money to you.
- Keep the cancellation email and all agent correspondence. If the agent stops responding, escalate to ABTA (for ABTA-member agents) or your card issuer under Section 75 of the UK Consumer Credit Act.
Be explicit in every communication: “I want a cash refund to my original payment method, not a voucher.”
How to Rebook Your easyJet Flight
Rebooking is done through the same Manage Bookings portal as refunds. easyJet’s own policy says the following applies when the airline cancels:
- A free switch to the next available easyJet flight on the same route, or to a flight from a nearby airport in the same country, or to an indirect easyJet routing.
- A free alternative-carrier booking on the same route, if no easyJet option works.
- Alternative surface transport (train, bus, hire car) or another airline if no easyJet seats are available within 24 hours, under comparable transport conditions.
If Manage Bookings does not display the option you need, call easyJet’s UK customer-services line on 0330 551 5151 and quote “EC261 re-routing under comparable transport conditions.”
Your Passenger Rights
easyJet operates under both EU and UK passenger-rights frameworks depending on where your flight departs.
EC 261/2004 (EU-departing flights and EU-carrier flights arriving in the EU)
easyJet Europe is an Austrian AOC carrier, so EU-departing flights are covered by EC 261. easyJet’s own help-centre article sets out the compensation tiers when cancellation is within 14 days of departure and the cause is not classed as an extraordinary circumstance:
- €250 for flights of 1,500 km or less
- €400 for intra-EU flights over 1,500 km and for all other flights between 1,500 km and 3,500 km
- €600 for flights over 3,500 km (rare on easyJet’s short-haul network)
easyJet classifies air traffic control strikes and bad weather as extraordinary circumstances, meaning re-routing or refund is owed but the cash compensation is not.
The 10 April Italy disruption is more complicated for easyJet than for most carriers: alongside the national ENAV ATC strike, USB Lavoro Privato called a four-hour easyJet flying-crew walkout for the same window. Because part of the cause was easyJet’s own crew, passengers on cancelled Italy flights that day should submit a claim rather than assume the extraordinary-circumstance defence applies.
The 6 April UNAC cabin-crew strike in France is also a passenger’s-own-carrier industrial action; courts have consistently ruled that an airline’s own staff strike does not count as extraordinary. Submit a claim.
UK APR 2019 (UK-departing flights)
Under the UK Air Passenger Rights 2019, which mirrors EC 261 post-Brexit, the compensation bands are £220, £350 and £520. Care entitlements mirror EC 261. The UK Civil Aviation Authority handles escalated complaints.
Care and Assistance (both EC 261 and UK APR 2019)
If you accept a rebooking and end up waiting at the airport, easyJet must provide:
- Refreshment vouchers — £6 or €9 — at the relevant delay thresholds (2 hours for flights under 1,500 km, 3 hours for 1,500–3,500 km, 4 hours for longer)
- Two free phone calls or emails
- Reasonable hotel accommodation if an overnight stay is required (easyJet suggests 3-star or equivalent properties such as Premier Inn, IBIS, Holiday Inn, Travelodge or Motel-One)
- Transport between the airport and your accommodation
- A meal reimbursement of up to £25 per person per day (or EUR/CHF equivalent) if the hotel cannot provide meals
easyJet is explicit on one point: if you opt for a voucher or a refund, you are no longer travelling with easyJet and forfeit the right to claim accommodation or other care expenses.
Will Travel Insurance Cover This?
If you did take out a policy, check these specifics before assuming you’re covered:
- Strike cancellations — most standard policies cover strike disruption only if the strike was announced after you bought the policy. The 10 April Italy ATC strike and the 6 April UNAC France action were balloted weeks in advance, so insurers may deny claims if you bought cover after those ballot dates.
- Route reductions — permanent route cuts tied to airport charges or taxes are usually not covered by trip-cancellation insurance, because easyJet is offering a full refund. You can only claim for consequential losses (non-refundable hotels, tours).
- ATC strike — some policies have a specific “industrial action” clause. Check whether “scheduled public transport industrial action” is named as a covered peril.
- Credit card protection — UK credit card purchases over £100 are protected under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. If easyJet fails to refund, your card issuer is jointly liable.
Keep every piece of paperwork: cancellation emails, screenshots of the easyJet app showing “Cancelled” status, receipts for any meals or accommodation, and boarding passes from onward journeys.

Tips for Affected Travellers
- Request a cash refund explicitly. easyJet’s default in Manage Bookings is often a voucher. If you want your money back, select “Refund” — not “Voucher” — and confirm it in writing.
- Document everything. Screenshot the cancellation notice, keep the booking reference, save all emails, and take photos of airport departure boards if you’re stranded.
- Don’t panic-book a replacement fare. Rival airlines raise prices when demand spikes. Ask easyJet for re-routing first — including the Alternative Carriers option — before buying your own replacement flight.
- Use the app, not the queue. At Gatwick, Luton, Stansted and continental bases, rebooking via the easyJet app is usually faster than the service desk. Run both in parallel if you can.
- Know your distance band. Before you claim, look up the great-circle distance between your origin and destination. That tells you whether you’re in the €250, €400 or €600 bracket (or the £220/£350/£520 UK equivalent) and gives you leverage on the EC 261 or UK APR claim.
- Escalate to the national regulator if easyJet refuses. UK-departing passengers can complain to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). EU-departing passengers escalate to the national enforcement body in the country of departure. Alternative dispute-resolution bodies (AviationADR, CEDR) also handle easyJet complaints.
- Credit card Section 75 is your backstop. If easyJet does not refund within the stated timeframe, contact your UK credit card issuer. They are jointly liable on purchases over £100.
- Keep all care-expense receipts. If you need to pay for your own hotel or meals because ground staff cannot arrange them, easyJet will reimburse reasonable costs — up to £25 per person per day for meals and a 3-star-equivalent hotel — via the welfare claim form, provided you have itemised receipts.
- Check the voucher terms if you accept one. easyJet vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of issue and cannot be extended. If you are not certain you will travel within that window, take the refund instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a cash refund if easyJet cancels my flight?
Yes. easyJet’s own policy says you are entitled to a full refund to the original payment method when the airline cancels. Select “Refund” in Manage Bookings; easyJet states requests are processed within 7 days, with a few additional days for your bank to clear the transfer.
How long does easyJet take to process a refund?
Seven days, plus bank clearing. easyJet’s help page states refund requests are processed within 7 days and may take a few additional days to reach your bank account. EC 261 sets an overall 7-day statutory requirement for airline-cancellation refunds. Agent and OTA bookings typically take longer because the refund has to pass through the booking channel.
Am I owed EC 261 or UK APR compensation on top of my refund?
Maybe. Cash compensation of €250–€600 (or £220–£520 under UK APR) is owed only if easyJet cancelled within 14 days of departure and the cause is not classed as extraordinary. easyJet treats ATC strikes and severe weather as extraordinary. A strike by easyJet’s own cabin or flying crew — like the 6 April UNAC France action or the 10 April USB walkout in Italy — is generally not extraordinary, so you should claim.
Will easyJet pay for my hotel if I’m stranded overnight?
Only if you’re still travelling with easyJet. easyJet’s policy is to arrange a 3-star-equivalent hotel and transport when the next available flight is the following day. If you opt for a voucher or refund, easyJet says you forfeit the right to claim accommodation or other care expenses, because you are no longer travelling with them.
Can I rebook onto a different airline if easyJet has no seats?
Yes — easyJet has a dedicated Alternative Carriers option. During a disruption, Manage Bookings may show a free booking with another airline flying the same route. If no easyJet flight is available within 24 hours, you can also arrange your own alternative transport (another airline, train, bus, hire car) under comparable transport conditions and claim the cost back — but not both a refund and alternative transport.
What if I booked through a travel agent or OTA?
Contact the agent first. easyJet routes refunds back through the original booking channel. Expect the process to take longer than a direct-booking refund. If your agent is an ABTA member you can escalate to ABTA; if you paid by UK credit card you can invoke Section 75.
Could summer 2026 see more easyJet cancellations?
Possibly. The Spanish USO cabin-crew strike scheduled for 25–27 June at Barcelona, Málaga, Alicante and Palma is the next confirmed industrial action on easyJet’s calendar. easyJet’s CEO has also flagged fuel-supply risk as a potential summer factor, although the airline has not cancelled any flights on that basis so far.
Did the Stansted strike actually happen?
No. Unite suspended the 17–20 April ABM ground-handling strike before it began, after ACAS-brokered talks produced an improved pay offer for members to vote on. easyJet, Ryanair and Wizz Air flights at Stansted operated to schedule through the weekend.
