Both Daily Flights and What They Cost
Etihad Airways adds a second daily flight between Abu Dhabi and Sydney from 15 December 2026, so the route goes from 10 to 14 flights a week. All four flights use the Airbus A350.
If you start in Sydney, the nonstop was the cheapest fare we found for mid-January. From Abu Dhabi it cost USD 161 more than Qatar Airways via Doha, which takes four and a half to five hours longer each way.
Morning or Evening: Which Flight Suits You
Sydney is 7 hours ahead of Abu Dhabi in December, and every flight lands the next day. The two departures suit different trips.
- Morning from Abu Dhabi (EY450): lands at 06:30 and gives you a full first day in Sydney, but your hotel room may not be ready until the afternoon.
- Evening from Abu Dhabi (EY454): leaves at 21:05 after a working day and lands at 17:45, in time to check in and sleep on Sydney time.
- Afternoon from Sydney (EY451): lands in Abu Dhabi at 00:25, which suits UAE residents heading straight home.
- Night from Sydney (EY455): lands at 05:00, leaving the whole day for an onward flight. Etihad says the extra flights open more connections to the Gulf, the Indian subcontinent, Africa and Europe.
- A break in Abu Dhabi: if you connect through the city, the Abu Dhabi Stopover program adds one or two complimentary hotel nights, and it now includes Al Ain, according to Etihad’s announcement.
- Flying on within Australia or to New Zealand: Etihad sells onward connections with its partners Qantas, Jetstar and Air New Zealand.
Visas and Baggage Before You Book
- Visiting Australia: check which visa your passport needs with the Department of Home Affairs first. The Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601) is open to certain passports only.
- How the ETA works: you apply in the Australian ETA app for AUD 20, and it allows stays of up to three months at a time.
- If your passport can’t get an ETA: the usual option for a holiday is the Visitor visa (subclass 600). Apply well before you book nonrefundable plans, and check the current fee on the Home Affairs page.
- Australians visiting the UAE: you get a free 30-day visa on arrival, which can usually be extended by 60 days. Your passport needs six months’ validity from the day you enter, says the UAE Embassy in Canberra.
- Baggage: the allowance depends on the fare type you choose, so check it on the fare screen before you pay, especially on the cheaper economy fares.
The evening flight lands at 17:45, so a room from your arrival night is enough. On the 06:30 arrival, book the night before if you want to check in straight away.
