The FIFA World Cup 2022 is the 22nd edition of the quadrennial international men’s football championship, which national teams from FIFA member associations will contest.

What is the FIFA World Cup 2022?

The FIFA World Cup 2022 is an international association football tournament contested by the senior men’s national teams of FIFA, Fédération Internationale de Football Association involving 32 teams held from late-November to mid-December 2022. Since the first event in 1930, the title has been given every four years. It will be played in a limited time span of around 28 days.

When and Where is the FIFA World Cup 2022?

The FIFA World Cup 2022 will be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022. The tournament will be held in the Arab world for the first time, and the second World Cup to be held exclusively in Asia, following the 2002 event in South Korea and Japan.

FIFA World Cup 2022 Groups

The hosts Qatar’s opening match will be played on 21 November 2022, at 13:00 local time (UTC+3), at the Al Bayt Stadium. Four matches will be played every day over the 12-day group stage, with the winners and runners-up progressing to the round of 16.

The group stage draw will take place after the March 2022 international match window, and the assignment of group fixtures for each matchday to a specific venue and kick-off time will be decided, as well as the teams of each group will be known. The following is the location where matches of the various groups will be held:

  • Groups A, B, E, F: Al Bayt Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Ahmed bin Ali Stadium
  • Groups C, D, G, H: Lusail Iconic Stadium, Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, Education City Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium

FIFA World Cup 2022 Schedule

Each day during the group stage, four matches will be played with kick-off timings being 13:00, 16:00, 19:00, and 22:00 for the first two rounds, and matches in the final round and knockout round commence at 18:00 and 22:00, respectively. The third-place match will be held at the Khalifa International Stadium on December 17, 2022, while the final will be held at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on December 18, 2022, at 18:00.

FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers

The FIFA World Cup 2022 qualification started on 6 June 2019 and is set to end in June 2022 with the inter-confederation play-offs. Therefore, the qualification is underway. The qualification process comprises six confederations: AFC, CAFCONCACAFCONMEBOLOFC, and UEFA. There are 210 teams playing, and the only one that has qualified so far is Qatar, which qualified automatically as the tournament’s host.

How to buy the match tickets?

As per the latest Qatar entry requirements, please note that international football fans without a World Cup ticket and the Hayya card will not be allowed to enter the country.

FIFA has started selling World Cup tickets from January 2022 onwards. Tickets for group matches cost between $105 and $210, while tickets for the final cost between $455 and $1,100.

However, it is not possible to apply for tickets now, since the random selection draw sales period held for fans who wanted to secure their seats, of Sales Phase (1) for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 generated huge demand around the world. Fans have been urged to pay for their tickets from 11:00 CET/13:00 Doha Time on 8 March and by no later than 11:00 CET/13:00 DOHA TIME on 21 March 2022. Therefore, it is NOT possible to apply for tickets during this period.
