Delhi is bracing for a series of restrictions as it gears up for the G20 Summit scheduled on September 9 and 10 at Pragati Maidan’s newly constructed Bharat Mandapam. Commencing from the intervening midnight of September 7-8 and extending through September 10 night, the Delhi Police has outlined a comprehensive plan to manage the influx of officials and leaders into the capital city starting from September 8.
Notably, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) area, often referred to as Lutyens’ Delhi, will be tightly controlled. Traffic diversions will reroute vehicles through Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways while barring Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs), and Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs), except for those carrying essential commodities with valid permits.
Bus routes will be adjusted, but the Delhi Metro will operate normally, except for the closure of the Supreme Court metro station during the summit. Indian Railways will see adjustments in train schedules, with certain trains cancelled or shortened and specific railway station access restricted. Road travel to IGI Airport will be affected, prompting advisories for travellers to use the metro’s airport line or plan road travel with extra time. Lastly, online food and other deliveries, except for medically categorized products, will be curtailed during the summit, aligning with Delhi Police’s security and traffic management measures.
