Fleet and aircraft
Gulf Air flies Airbus A320 and A321 narrowbodies on Gulf, Middle East and short-to-medium Asia routes, with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners handling the long-haul network. Newer neo variants are progressively replacing the older ceo models through 2026.
The A321neo delivered in June 2026 brought the fleet to 46 aircraft, and Gulf Air has continued taking more of the type through the year as it retires the older jets.
On the widebody side, the airline finalised a firm order for 15 additional 787-9s at the Dubai Airshow in November 2025, with options for three more, on top of the ten already flying.
Further out, the July 2026 letter of intent with JetZero for the blended-wing Z4 aircraft signals Gulf Air is thinking about what replaces the 787 in the early 2030s, though that deal is non-binding and years from delivery.
Hubs and route network
Gulf Air’s only hub is Manama’s Bahrain International Airport (BAH), and essentially every GF flight touches it. There is no secondary base.
From there the network reaches more than 50 destinations across the Gulf, the wider Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, Europe and East Asia, plus its transatlantic route to New York.
South Asia is a particular strength, with Mumbai and New Delhi sitting alongside frequent services to Pakistan and Bangladesh. Regionally, Dubai, Jeddah and Cairo are among the busiest short-haul routes, and Istanbul and Kuala Lumpur anchor the airline’s reach into Turkey and Southeast Asia.
The network has spent much of 2026 rebuilding after a Bahrain airspace closure pushed operations temporarily to Dammam between March and April. Bahrain’s airspace and airport have since reopened, though later regional flare-ups mean schedules can still shift at short notice.
Cabins and onboard product
Gulf Air flies two cabins: Falcon Gold, its business class, and Economy.
Falcon Gold is lie-flat on the 787-9 and on the long-haul A321neo, and a recliner on the older narrowbodies. The cabin comes with priority check-in, lounge access in Bahrain and a heavier baggage allowance.
Economy is standard recliner seating with the airline’s in-flight entertainment, streamed to seatback screens on widebodies and to passengers’ own devices on narrowbody aircraft.
The biggest change underway is connectivity. Gulf Air’s first Starlink-equipped aircraft entered service on 12 May 2026, with the Wi-Fi free in all cabins, and as of a July 2026 interview the airline expects 16 aircraft fitted by the end of the year. The 787s follow once certification clears in 2027.
Gulf Air has also raised the possibility of a dedicated premium economy cabin, though nothing has been confirmed.
Baggage allowance and check-in
Checked baggage on Gulf Air depends on fare type and cabin.
- Economy Light typically allows one bag up to 23kg.
- Economy Smart and Flex typically allow two bags at 23kg each.
- Falcon Gold passengers get two bags up to 32kg each.
- Falconflyer members carry an additional allowance on top of their fare-based entitlement, scaled to their tier.
Economy sells as Basic, Light, Smart and Flex, while Falcon Gold sells as Smart or Flex, and each fare family carries different rules. Allowances also vary by route, so check cabin baggage limits and your exact entitlement against your own ticket.
Online check-in and mobile boarding passes are available through Gulf Air’s website and app ahead of departure, with airport check-in desks and self-service kiosks open at Bahrain International Airport and Gulf Air’s other stations for passengers who prefer to check in in person.

Loyalty programme: Falconflyer
Gulf Air’s frequent flyer programme, Falconflyer, runs four membership tiers: Blue, Silver, Gold and Black. Rewards accrue as miles, while tier status is driven by a separate qualifying points balance earned from flying and partner spending.
Higher tiers unlock bonus mileage earning, with Gold members earning a 50% bonus on standard mileage and Black members 75%, plus priority check-in, extra baggage allowance and lounge access. Black cardholders also get one complimentary upgrade to Falcon Gold per tier period.
Gulf Air is not part of any of the three global alliances, so its partner network runs on bilateral deals instead, including a partnership with Etihad Airways covering both earning and redeeming miles.
Membership validity varies by tier. Blue has no expiry, Silver cards are valid for one year, and Gold and Black cards are valid for two years, with tier status reviewed at renewal based on points earned in the period.
