What Is the Minimum Age for Hajj 2026?
The minimum age for Hajj 2026 is 12 years old for overseas pilgrims travelling through official Hajj channels.
Domestic applicants in Saudi Arabia must be at least 15. Children below 12 are not permitted to travel for Hajj under the current Saudi regulations.
On 2 May 2026, Saudi authorities briefly raised the minimum age for overseas Hajj pilgrims to 15, effective from 3 May. The restriction would have barred affected under-15 pilgrims from boarding Hajj flights and cancelled their visas.
However, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reversed the decision within hours, restoring the previous policy.
The Directorate General of Hajj confirmed that visas rejected under the short-lived 15-year restriction will be reprocessed.

Is There a Maximum Age for Hajj?
There is no general upper age limit for Hajj. Saudi Arabia does not bar elderly pilgrims from performing the pilgrimage, provided they meet applicable health rules and any country-specific companion requirements.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Saudi authorities temporarily restricted pilgrims above 65 from attending Hajj due to health risks. That restriction is no longer in effect for Hajj 2026.
However, some national Hajj schemes apply additional rules for pilgrims aged 65 and above.
For example, under India’s HCoI scheme:
- Mandatory companion — every pilgrim aged 65 or above must travel with a companion. Most companions must be aged 18 to 60; a spouse or sibling aged 60 to 65 may be allowed with government medical fitness certification.
- Medical clearance — all HCoI applicants need medical screening and a fitness certificate, with special screening for pilgrims aged 60 or above.
- Family relation — the companion must be a family member or near relative, not an unrelated person.
India’s HCoI scheme gives top priority allocation to applicants aged 65 and above, so elderly pilgrims applying through that scheme may have a higher chance of securing a Hajj spot.
