Hajj 2026 will take place from Monday, 25 May to Saturday, 30 May 2026, and Saudi Arabia has a clear transport plan to move every pilgrim safely between Makkah, Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah.
This guide explains how you will travel during Hajj.
How you will travel to Makkah or Madinah
You will land at one of two airports: King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah (JED) or Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah (MED). Both have special Hajj terminals just for pilgrims.
If your country is part of the Makkah Route Initiative, you will finish passport, visa and customs checks before you board the plane. When you land, you skip the queues and go straight to your bus.
The Makkah Route now covers pilgrims from these countries:
- Pakistan (Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore)
- Indonesia, Malaysia, and Bangladesh
- Turkey, Morocco, and Côte d’Ivoire
- Senegal, Brunei, and the Maldives (new for 2026)
After you arrive, a mutawwif bus (an official government bus) will take you to your hotel in Makkah or Madinah. Your group leader keeps your travel coupons, so you do not need to find your own taxi.
The “Hajj Without Luggage” service
Saudi Arabia has launched a “Hajj Without Luggage” service for 2026. You hand your bags over at the airport, and they are delivered to your hotel for you.
This means you walk through the airport with only your small hand bag. Ask your travel agent if your package includes this service.
How you will move between the Holy Sites
The trips between Makkah, Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah are the most important part of Hajj transport. Saudi Arabia uses buses, the Mashaer Metro train, and the Jamarat Bridge to move pilgrims safely.
If you miss your group’s time slot, you may not be allowed on the bus or train. Keep your phone charged and your Nusuk Card with you at all times.
You do not pick how you travel. The Saudi Ministry of Hajj assigns each group a time slot and a vehicle through the Nusuk Card system.
Buses
More than 33,000 buses and 5,000 taxis are ready for Hajj 2026, according to the Saudi government’s transport plan. Each bus is tracked by GPS in real time.
Your group will board the same bus together. Always travel with your group and follow your leader’s instructions.

The Mashaer Metro train
The Al Mashaer Al Mugaddassah Metro is a special train that runs only between Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat. It is expected to carry more than two million pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj.
You can only board the metro if your Nusuk Card is valid for that train. The card is scanned at the gate.
The Haramain High-Speed Railway
The Haramain High-Speed Railway connects Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah. For Hajj 2026, more than 2.2 million seats are available on this train.
The trip from Makkah to Madinah takes only about two hours by train. Buy your ticket through your Hajj package, not at the station.

Do I need to book my own transport between Makkah, Mina and Arafat?
No, you do not. Your Hajj package includes all transport between the Holy Sites, and your group leader will tell you when and where to board your assigned bus or train.
What is the Nusuk Card and why is it important?
The Nusuk Card is your official Hajj ID. It is mandatory for every pilgrim and is needed to board buses, the metro, and to enter the Holy Sites — always wear it and keep it safe.
Which vaccines are required for Hajj 2026?
The meningitis ACWY vaccine is required for every pilgrim. Polio and yellow fever vaccines are required if you come from certain high-risk countries. Check with your doctor at least one month before you travel.
Is there only one official platform to book Hajj?
