Compared to the same booking window last year, flights for summer 2025 are costing Indian travelers more across almost every region. And no, this isn’t just a one-off.

Some other destinations like Cairo or Casablanca saw even more dramatic spikes in airfare, more than doubling compared to last year. However, the more telling trend lies in the consistent increases across mainstream routes. Even popular, well-connected cities in nearby regions have steadily become more expensive, suggesting a broader pattern of demand-driven inflation rather than isolated anomalies. Below is a table showing the year-on-year average airfare increases for key summer routes in 2025.
| Destination | Avg Price (2025) | YoY Change |
| Dubai | USD 202.72 (INR 17,073) | +19.6% |

From one week to the next: Price creep is real
Even waiting another week to book could cost you more. Here’s how prices shifted between 28 April and 5 May for top destinations:

This isn’t a glitch, it’s a clear pattern. While a few destinations saw minor dips last week (good news, Bangkok fans!), the majority continued to climb, some sharply and consistently. The biggest spikes are often seen on longer-haul routes like Tokyo, Taipei, and Manchester, where fare volatility is driven by limited airline competition, growing demand, and seasonality.
Travel tip: Prices are up, but still within range. Booking now helps you avoid even steeper increases down the road. The following table highlights week-on-week fare changes for popular summer routes, comparing prices between 28 April and 5 May 2025.
| Route | Price Change (WoW) |
| Dubai | +3.8% |
| Riyadh | +4.5% |
| Bangkok | -5.6% |
| Ras al Khaimah | +0.6% |
| Birmingham | +6.5% |
| Tabuk | +2.4% |
| Abu Dhabi | +6.1% |
| Doha | +0.1% |
| Malta | +5.2% |
| Singapore | -2.0% |
| Taipei | +152.5% |
| Manchester | +12.2% |
| Jakarta | +4.5% |
| Kuala Lumpur | +9.2% |
| Bali | +1.3% |
| Tokyo | +17.8% |
By region: Where prices are climbing fastest
Gulf/MENA
Dubai (+19.6%), Sharjah (+23.5%), Dammam (+16.78%), and Riyadh (+9.9%) are among the busiest corridors for Indian travelers, and fares continue trending upward week-on-week.
Southeast Asia
This region remains a summer staple for Indian travelers due to its affordability and accessibility. However, demand is pushing prices higher here too: Kuala Lumpur (+12.3%), Bali (+11.9%), Jakarta (+13.5%), and Bangkok (+8.6%) are all more expensive than last summer. While still cheaper than Europe, these cities are now trending more volatile on a weekly basis, with Bali and Kuala Lumpur seeing small but consistent increases.
Europe
European destinations are seeing mixed signals. Airfares to some cities, like Zurich (-22.78%), Rome (-5.6%), and Amsterdam (-8.07%), have softened slightly YoY, but others have sharply risen. Moscow (+19.75%), Manchester (+13%), and Budapest (+23%) are climbing steadily, and week-on-week volatility suggests any dips may be short-lived. For Indian travelers eyeing summer holidays in Europe, early booking still makes a difference.
East Asia
East Asia is leading the pack in fare hikes this summer. Taipei fares jumped +11% YoY, while Tokyo and Hong Kong saw strong increases of +14.94% and +40.55%, respectively. These are long-haul routes with limited airline competition, making them more vulnerable to sharp price swings. If East Asia is on your summer wish list, early commitment and date flexibility are your best bet for keeping costs down.
Why waiting doesn’t work this year
Summer 2025 fares are on the rise, and based on current trends, even a few days’ delay can mean spending significantly more. Waiting for a better deal might sound smart, but in most cases, it backfires. Here’s what savvy travelers are doing:
- Booking flights at least 6 to 8 weeks in advance
- Using Wego to monitor, compare, and book flights and hotels
- Committing early and staying flexible with travel dates, where possible
Booking myth buster: Summer flights don’t magically drop later; they usually spike. Instead of waiting for a dip that may never come, the smarter move is to secure your seat now before prices rise again. Travel is one of the few things you buy that makes you richer, just don’t wait until it costs double.
