India to London business class, city by city
The table below shows each city’s cheapest fare on any routing, plus the cheapest nonstop fare where one exists.
| From | Cheapest overall | Carrier / routing | Cheapest nonstop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyderabad | $2,009 | Air India, via Mumbai | $6,110 (British Airways) |
| Chennai | $2,162 | Air India, via Mumbai | $6,894 (British Airways) |
| Mumbai | $2,539 | Etihad, via Abu Dhabi | $3,400 (Virgin Atlantic) |
| Amritsar | $2,685 | British Airways / Qatar Airways, via Doha | $3,212 (Air India, to Gatwick) |
| Delhi | $2,707 | British Airways / Qatar Airways, via Doha | $3,764 (Air India) |
| Bengaluru | $4,556 | Air India, via Mumbai | $4,948 (Air India) |
Sort the six cities by price and the split is not about distance or demand. It is about how many airlines compete on the nonstop.
Book from a well-served hub like Delhi or Mumbai and competition keeps fares down. Book from a city with only one nonstop operator, and that airline prices it like a monopoly.
Why does the price swing so much between cities?
Delhi and Mumbai are corporate battlegrounds. Air India, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic all fly nonstop from both cities, and Gulf carriers add a one-stop option through their hubs. That competition pushes the cheapest fare below even the nonstop price.
Hyderabad and Chennai have exactly one nonstop operator each, and it prices like a monopoly. British Airways is the only carrier flying nonstop from either city to London: $6,110 from Hyderabad, $6,894 from Chennai. Route the same trip through Mumbai on Air India instead and the price drops to $2,009 and $2,162.
Bengaluru is the outlier. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic also fly nonstop from Bengaluru, but on our sample date Air India was the only competitively priced option there, at $4,948 nonstop or $4,556 via Mumbai, still the highest floor of any city in this comparison.
If your dates are flexible and you can start from a nearby city instead, checking Hyderabad, Chennai or Mumbai fares before booking from Bengaluru can save thousands of dollars.
Is skipping the nonstop worth the savings?
On most India to London routes, the instinct is to pay for the nonstop and skip the layover. On this corridor, that instinct is expensive in exactly two cities.
Read this as a rule of thumb rather than a fixed price. When one airline owns the nonstop, expect a steep premium. When two or three compete for it, the nonstop sits close to the market price and is usually worth paying for the shorter flight.
IndiGo also flies Delhi to London Heathrow nonstop, and its cheapest fares look tempting next to the numbers above. IndiGo markets this cabin as “IndiGoStretch business class,” but it is a wide recliner seat that does not fold flat, not a lie-flat bed like every other carrier in this comparison.
IndiGo is also pausing this route entirely from 25 October 2026, when the lease on its aircraft runs out, and does not expect to resume long-haul flying until its own wide-body aircraft arrive in 2027. We have excluded IndiGo from every figure in this article for that reason.
What you actually get in the cabin
Price is only half the comparison. The genuine lie-flat carriers on this corridor differ in cabin age and privacy.
| Airline | Cabin | Seat type | What you should know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air India | Business Class | Lie-flat suite on its Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350 aircraft | Its newest cabins are flying several London routes, including the Amritsar-Gatwick nonstop, three times a week on a Boeing 787. Older aircraft are still being retrofitted, so check the aircraft type at booking. |
| British Airways | Club World / Club Suite | Lie-flat; newer aircraft have an enclosed Club Suite pod with a sliding door | The only nonstop carrier from Hyderabad and Chennai. It’s also adding a third daily Delhi flight and more Bengaluru capacity this year. |
| Virgin Atlantic | Upper Class | Lie-flat, without a privacy door | Flies Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru nonstop, with Bengaluru now up to 13 flights a week. |
| IndiGo | IndiGoStretch | Wide recliner, does not fold flat | Marketed as business class but not lie-flat. Route pauses from 25 October 2026; excluded from every fare figure above. |
The cheapest and priciest months to fly
We ran the same search from Hyderabad, our cheapest origin city, across seven departure dates spanning twelve months, round trip, one adult, taking the cheapest business class fare found on each date.
The gap is stark. Our late-September sample date priced at $2,009, while every other month we checked sat between $3,243 and $3,544. The floor tracks whichever one-stop itinerary has inventory on a given date rather than the calendar, so treat late September as a possible sweet spot worth rechecking closer to your own dates rather than a guaranteed annual discount.
At roughly ₹95.23 to the US dollar (6 August 2026), that $2,009 low works out to about ₹1.91 lakh round trip, and the $3,544 high to about ₹3.37 lakh.
How to bring the price down
- Start from Hyderabad or Chennai only if you can route through Mumbai. The nonstop from either city is a monopoly fare; the one-stop is roughly a third of the price for two extra hours.
- Delhi and Mumbai reward the nonstop. With three carriers competing, the premium for skipping the layover was only $861 to $1,057 in our search.
- Check a nearby city before booking from Bengaluru. If your dates and plans allow starting from Chennai or Hyderabad instead, the saving is enormous.
- Confirm the aircraft and cabin before booking. Both Air India and British Airways are still rolling out newer cabins fleet-wide, so the exact seat can vary by flight number.
- Skip IndiGo if you need a lie-flat seat. Its cheaper fare buys a recliner, not a bed, and the route pauses from 25 October 2026 anyway.
- Set a fare alert on Wego rather than checking manually. One-stop premium fares on this corridor move daily.
