IndiGo Manchester Flights Ending: Refunds and Alternative Routes to and from India

IndiGo is pulling out of Manchester from 31 August 2026

IndiGo will temporarily discontinue all flights between Manchester and India from 31 August 2026, the airline confirmed. That covers both routes it operates from the UK city: Manchester to Mumbai and Manchester to Delhi.

The Mumbai route was IndiGo’s long-haul debut, launching nonstop on 1 July 2025 using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Delhi followed a few months later, with IndiGo launching Delhi-Manchester on 15 November 2025 and raising both routes to a combined nine weekly flights by mid-November.

By February 2026, that combined frequency had already dropped to seven weekly flights as IndiGo trimmed the schedule ahead of the full suspension.

IndiGo cites a mix of pressures behind the decision:

IndiGo’s wider wide-body network is being wound down alongside Manchester, not left untouched. Its daily Mumbai-London Heathrow service, launched on 26 October 2025, is due to pause from around 25 October 2026 until IndiGo’s own Airbus A350-900 aircraft are delivered.

Mumbai-Amsterdam continues on the same timeline, but switches from the Boeing 787-9 to the smaller Airbus A321XLR, since that is also the date the Norse Atlantic damp lease supplying IndiGo’s Dreamliners winds down.

The suspension also ends Manchester’s brief run as, in the words of Manchester Airport’s own announcement, the only UK airport outside London with a direct service to Delhi. From 1 September, London again becomes the only UK gateway with nonstop flights to India.

Refunds, rebooking, and your rights as a passenger

IndiGo’s own policy states that when it cancels or reschedules a flight, affected passengers can choose a full refund, rebooking onto an alternative IndiGo flight at no extra cost, or travel credit for future bookings. IndiGo says it will contact affected customers directly ahead of 31 August to arrange one of these options.

Any cash compensation on top of a refund is assessed separately. IndiGo’s flight delay and cancellation policy states that compensation for a cancelled flight is handled under India’s DGCA rules (Civil Aviation Requirement, Section 3, Series M, Part IV), separate from the refund or rebooking itself.

Because these flights depart from a UK airport, you’re also covered by UK passenger rights rules, regardless of IndiGo’s Indian registration.

IndiGo announced the Manchester suspension in early June 2026, roughly three months before the 31 August cutoff. Because that’s well outside the 14-day compensation window, the UK CAA’s rules mean you’re entitled to a refund or rerouting, but not additional statutory cash compensation, unless your specific circumstances involve a shorter notice period.

Booking this as a single through-ticket (rather than two separate tickets) matters. If your Manchester-Heathrow connection is delayed and both flights are on one itinerary, the onward carrier has more responsibility to rebook or assist you.
