Yes — no wildfire-related cancellations or delays have been reported at Athens International Airport at any point through August 7, and the airport sits on the eastern side of Attica, well away from both fire zones. Separate, unrelated hour-plus delays have affected ATH at times this summer due to air-traffic capacity and staffing constraints, not the wildfires.

Athens’ live air quality reading is “Moderate,” not “Unhealthy” or “Hazardous” — IQAir’s monitor showed a US AQI of 62 (PM2.5 around 15 µg/m³) as of August 7. That’s noticeable to people with respiratory sensitivities but not a level that warrants cancelling or shortening a visit today.
- Smoke was worse in the fire’s early days — on July 31, drifting wildfire smoke prompted a precautionary evacuation of patients from Athens’ Dafni psychiatric hospital, even though flames never reached the building.

What areas should I avoid?
Avoid these rural and coastal West Attica communities for now. Evacuation orders were in force for several of them as of the most recent confirmed reports, and we couldn’t confirm whether they’ve all since been lifted:
- Porto Germeno
- Megara
- Psatha
- Nea Peramos
- Alepochori
- Kandili
- Agia Skepi
These are genuine Athenian seaside holiday spots on the Gulf of Corinth, not empty countryside — the evacuations and boat rescues affected real holidaymakers and second-home owners, not just year-round residents. None of them are central Athens neighbourhoods, and none of this changes the picture for a trip centred on the city itself.
If your itinerary includes a day trip toward Corinth or the Peloponnese, note that the Alepochori–Psatha–Vilia provincial road toward Porto Germeno reopened, but Mandras Street in Mandra was still closed for firefighting access as of the last confirmed report — check Civil Protection’s live 112 alerts or the local municipality before you set off. If your plans instead take you to the northern suburbs — Kifisia, Dionysos, or Kryoneri — check current conditions too, given the newer fire in that area this week.
Should I still keep my Athens hotel booking?
Yes — if you’re staying in any of the central neighbourhoods (Plaka, Koukaki, Syntagma, Kolonaki, or Monastiraki) there’s no reason to cancel or change your booking. These areas are well removed from both fire zones and are operating exactly as they would on any other summer day.
