Current Airport Status
Jizan Airport (also spelled Jazan) is the main air gateway to Saudi Arabia’s southern Jazan Province, close to the Yemen border. The closure period affected airport operations, but no complete official list of delayed, diverted or cancelled flight numbers was published in the sources reviewed. Confirm the operating status of your flight number before travelling to the terminal.
Saudi Arabia has civilian flight services running. The UK FCDO warns of further attacks on airports in the south, including Jizan, and of possible temporary closures near the Yemen border.
Flights to Jizan
Published fares and timetables have been removed because they do not establish current operation during the escalation. You can still search Riyadh–Jizan and Jeddah–Jizan options, but confirm the flight number with the operating airline before travel.

Terminal Information
Jizan Airport operates from a single terminal, opened in stages from 2014, with five departure gates. All passengers, whether flying domestic or the airport’s occasional international service, share the same building. Key facilities available in the terminal:
- Wi-Fi throughout the terminal
- A prayer room
- Duty-free and retail shops
- Currency exchange and ATMs
- Cafes and dining options
- Car rental counters
- Medical and first aid services
A single shared terminal keeps connections short in normal operation. Published schedules are not proof a specific flight will run while the region’s security situation is unsettled.
Airlines Operating at Jizan
| Airline | Type | Key Destinations |
|---|---|---|
| Saudia | Full service | Riyadh, Jeddah |
| flyadeal | Low cost | Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Madinah, Tabuk |
| flynas | Low cost | Riyadh, Jeddah |
Riyadh and Jeddah are Jizan’s busiest routes by far. The airport has also carried seasonal international flights to destinations such as Cairo, Sharjah and Dubai in past schedules. Confirm any international service directly with the airline, since it is not part of the current published domestic timetable.
How to Check Flight Status at Jizan
Use these checks for a specific flight. Public official sources reviewed did not provide a complete route-by-route disruption list:
- Check the flight number on the operating airline’s app or website; a booking result or timetable is not an operating confirmation.
- Check for a current airport or GACA notice and follow Saudi Civil Defense alerts before travelling.
- Cross-check the aircraft’s live position on Flightradar24 or FlightAware.
If your flight is disrupted, GACA’s Passenger Rights Protection Regulations provide:
- Refreshments and drinks from the first hour of delay
- A suitable meal when the delay exceeds three hours
- Hotel accommodation and transport to and from the airport when the delay exceeds six hours
- The option to treat a delay over five hours as a cancellation; if cancellation ends the contract, the full ticket value, including additional fees paid, must be refunded
Compensation is not automatic and can depend on the cause, notice and any regulatory exemption.
Getting To and From the Airport
Taxi and Ride-Hailing
Taxis wait outside the terminal for the short run into Jazan city, about 3 km away. Ride-hailing apps operate in the area too.
Public Bus Services
Local bus routes connect the airport to central Jazan, though frequency is limited compared to a taxi.
Car Rental
Car rental counters operate from the terminal for onward travel across Jazan Province.
Private Airport Transfers
Hotels in Jazan can typically arrange a private transfer, useful outside taxi hours.
Transit and Layover Information
Jizan is a point-to-point domestic gateway, not a connections hub. Short-notice disruption can leave limited same-day alternatives, so build in a generous buffer and confirm any connection with the airline.
Nearby Alternative Airports
| Airport | Distance from Jizan | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Abha (AHB) | About 150 km | Latest reporting kept Abha open; confirm the individual flight |
| Najran (EAM) | About 210 km | Time-limited closure reported through 15:00 UTC on 20 September; post-cutoff status not independently verified |
| Jeddah (JED) | About 480 km | Open, no closure reported |
Abha and Najran share Jizan’s southern border region and the same official caution. Jeddah is the nearest hub with no closure reported and is well connected onward.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Jizan Airport open right now?
The latest published operational evidence reported a NOTAM closure until 15:00 UTC on 20 September. No newer official airport or airline notice was found confirming either an extension or normal reopening for 21 September, so the post-cutoff status is not independently verified.
Will the regional conflict affect my flight to Jizan?
Yes. Jizan has regional exposure and was subject to a documented time-limited NOTAM closure through 15:00 UTC on 20 September. That does not establish an ongoing closure after the cutoff, but further short-notice disruption remains possible during the continuing escalation.
How far is Jizan Airport from the city centre?
About 3 km, a short taxi ride from central Jazan.
Which airlines fly to Jizan?
Saudia, flyadeal and flynas operate the domestic network from Riyadh and Jeddah, with flyadeal also serving Dammam, Madinah and Tabuk.
Is there free Wi-Fi at Jizan Airport?
Yes, the terminal has Wi-Fi throughout.
What should I do if my flight to Jizan is cancelled?
Ask the operating airline for rebooking or to end the contract and refund the full ticket value, including additional fees paid. GACA’s delay-care rules provide refreshments from the first hour, a suitable meal after three hours, and hotel accommodation plus airport transport after six hours. A delay over five hours may be treated as a cancellation; compensation can depend on the cause and applicable exemptions.
What are the busiest routes to Jizan?
Riyadh and Jeddah are the busiest published domestic routes, but current frequencies and individual operation must be confirmed.
Is Jizan Airport open 24 hours?
No independently verified operating hours were found. Departures and arrivals cluster through the day and evening rather than overnight, based on the current published schedule.
