Is Lebanon’s Airspace Open Right Now?
Yes. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) says Beirut airport is open and operational, while the airport’s official live flight feed lists arrivals and departures. Airspace restrictions can still be introduced with little warning.
Open does not mean low-risk. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Conflict Zone Information Bulletin CZIB-2026-06, issued on 8 July and valid until 31 August 2026 unless reviewed earlier, identifies a high risk to civil aircraft at all altitudes in the Beirut Flight Information Region. It recommends that affected operators do not fly within Lebanese airspace.
EASA cites the continuing possibility of military activity and limited airspace risk management. Airlines may therefore avoid Lebanese airspace even while commercial flights continue to operate.
Regional Context and Current Risk
EASA said on 8 July that short-term regional tensions had eased after ceasefire agreements, but it issued a separate Lebanon bulletin because the risk there remained high. It noted that military activity had reduced but remained possible, and that the long-term implementation of the 26 June framework agreement was uncertain.
The situation remains volatile. Travellers should rely on current airline, airport and government updates rather than older suspension or resumption dates.
Which Airlines Are Flying to Beirut?
On 20 July, Beirut airport’s official flight feed showed scheduled services operated by Middle East Airlines (MEA), Royal Jordanian, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, EgyptAir, flydubai, Etihad Airways, Kuwait Airways, Qatar Airways, Air Arabia, Emirates and Jazeera Airways, among others. The same feed also showed individual cancellations, so a listed airline does not guarantee that every flight will operate.
For the most reliable check, use the airport’s live flight information and the operating airline’s own app or website. MEA passengers can also use the MEA flight status page. Confirm the booking before travelling to the airport.
What Government Travel Advisories Say
Government advice remains severe and differs by nationality. Check the advisory issued by your own government before deciding whether to travel or transit.
United States
The US State Department maintains a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory, issued on 6 May 2026. It tells US citizens not to travel to Lebanon for any reason because of risks including armed conflict, terrorism, kidnapping, crime, unrest and landmines.
United Kingdom
The FCDO advises against all travel to large parts of Lebanon and against all but essential travel to other specified areas, including the rest of Beirut and Mount Lebanon. Its advice says that commercial flight options are limited and that people travelling by air should not go to the airport unless their airline has confirmed their reservation.
Other Countries
- Canada: The Government of Canada advises against all travel to Lebanon and says people already there should leave.
- Australia: Smartraveller advises “Do not travel” and warns that Lebanese airspace may open or close at short notice.

At the Airport
Beirut airport is open and operational, but individual flights can be delayed or cancelled. Check the flight before setting out and allow extra time. Roads to and from the airport can be blocked at short notice, so check local conditions and follow the authorities’ instructions.
Travel Insurance
Travelling against government advice may invalidate insurance or limit cover.
