In a significant move to bolster its tourism sector, Kazakhstan has effectively implemented a new initiative that waives the tourist tax for foreign visitors. This initiative, which came into effect on 9 January, was first announced on 27 December 2023 and has already begun to yield positive results. Wego reports the daily tax, previously levied on foreign tourists during their stay in Kazakhstan, has now been abolished.

This strategic decision is part of Kazakhstan’s broader efforts to stimulate tourism within the country. Early indicators suggest that the initiative is having the desired impact. According to the Global Tourism Ranking by the World Economic Forum, Kazakhstan currently holds the 66th position out of 117 countries.
