IMAX doesn’t publish a public spec sheet ranking every Indian screen, so the figures below come from cinema-chain announcements, IMAX’s own theatre listings, and reputable entertainment trade press, with the source named for each screen.
Screen width is the most consistently reported figure across sources, so that’s what the chart below sorts by.

1. Gujarat Science City, Ahmedabad — 97 x 67 ft, India’s largest IMAX screen size
This is the largest IMAX projection screen in India, and reportedly in Asia, seating 647 people.
It runs on genuine 15/70mm film, the same rare true-IMAX format covered in our full list of every true IMAX 70mm theater in the world. Science City officials said in late 2024 that they planned to convert the theatre to a digital projector within about a year.
As of July 2026, the venue’s own official theatre page still describes the format as 15-perforation 70mm film, and we found no announcement that the planned digital conversion has gone ahead.
Gujarat Science City’s IMAX is the size record-holder, but its programming is science and nature documentaries, not new theatrical releases.
2 (tie). PVR Superplex, Logix City Centre, Noida — about 70 x 40 ft
High On Cinema, a Delhi-NCR cinema review site, calls this the biggest IMAX screen in the region, at 40 x 70 ft.
It plays regular commercial releases; IMAX’s own listing for this venue shows stadium seating, not IMAX with Laser, so don’t confuse it with the separate, laser-equipped PVR Superplex at Mall of India, Noida.
2 (tie). Miraj Cinemas’ IMAX Wadala, Mumbai — about 70 x 40 ft
A press release cited by Digital Signage Today puts this screen at 70 by 40 ft, and calls it Mumbai’s largest IMAX screen.
It sits on the site of India’s first-ever IMAX screen, which the original operator Adlabs dates to 21 March 2001, and now runs IMAX with Laser projection under Miraj Cinemas.
2 (tie). Palazzo IMAX, Nexus Vijaya Mall, Chennai — comparable screen size, no published figure
IMAX’s own listing for this venue confirms stadium seating and laser projection, and PVR INOX replaced the screen outright over November and December 2025, reopening the auditorium as IMAX XT Laser 3D.
That rebuild is why we haven’t put a number on it: the dimensions circulating for this screen come from cinema-enthusiast tracking and all predate the new screen, and no current figure has been independently published.
Every account we found still places it in the same size range as Noida and Wadala, so we’ve grouped the three together rather than forcing a strict order.
Notable Mention: Hyderabad’s Prasads and the PCX Switch
Prasads Multiplex in Hyderabad opened India’s third IMAX theatre in July 2003 and, at one point, carried the country’s biggest screen.
That changed in 2014, when Prasads converted the auditorium to its own in-house large-format system, PCX.
IMAX is coming back to Hyderabad regardless: IMAX Corporation and Asian Cinemas announced in June 2026 that the AMB Cinemas brand will bring IMAX with Laser back to the city, with the first location opening before the end of 2026.
