Malaga airport train: the fastest public option

Renfe’s C1 Cercanías line runs between Fuengirola and Málaga Centro-Alameda, stopping at the airport. For the city centre, follow signs to the airport rail station and take a train in the Málaga Centro-Alameda direction.

Do not board toward Fuengirola if central Málaga is your destination. Aena lists an approximate transfer time of eight minutes to Málaga María Zambrano and 12 minutes to Málaga centre.

Stations along the C1 line

María Zambrano is useful for onward mainline or high-speed trains; Centro-Alameda is the final C1 stop and is closer to the historic-centre side of the route.

• Payment: Renfe allows a contactless bank card or mobile payment at the gates for a one-way journey. Tap or validate at both the departure and arrival stations.

The train is usually the clearest choice when you are travelling light and staying near Centro-Alameda, Soho, the western edge of the historic centre or María Zambrano. Add walking time from the station to your accommodation when comparing it with a taxi.

Malaga airport bus: direct to Paseo del Parque

EMT Málaga’s Airport Express Line A links the airport and the city centre. At the airport, Aena places the bus stop on Floor 0 at Arrivals. The central end of the route is Paseo del Parque, useful for the old-town, port and eastern-centre side of Málaga.

• Single fare: €4.
• Luggage: carried free.
• Payment: cash, Visa or Mastercard on board, according to Aena.
• Posted journey time: about 20 minutes from the airport to the centre, although road traffic can extend it.
• Operating span: the current municipal schedule shows a first airport departure at 07:00. The last airport-to-city bus leaves at 23:10 on Monday, 23:59 from Tuesday to Saturday, and 23:50 on Sunday and public holidays.
• Interval: departures commonly appear around every 20–30 minutes in the published table; verify your exact day.

The bus can be more convenient than the train when Paseo del Parque or a nearby central stop is closer to your hotel. It is less predictable than rail when traffic is heavy, so avoid building a tight onward connection around the scheduled arrival time.

Malaga airport taxi cost and tariff rules

Taxis depart from the airport’s Arrivals area. Aena publishes airport-origin minimum fares rather than one flat city-centre price. The amount on the meter can be higher depending on distance, traffic, waiting and supplements.

• Fare 4: minimum €17.37 on working Mondays to Fridays from 06:00 to 22:00.
• Fare 5: minimum €21.72 during specified weekday nights, weekends, public holidays and certain special dates or festival periods.
• Fare 9: minimum €24.93 during specified late Friday/weekend/holiday and festival-night periods.
• Luggage supplement: €0.56 per item carried in the boot.
• Night supplement: €2.15 between 00:00 and 06:00 on Fares 5 and 9.

These are minimum airport-origin charges, not guaranteed totals for every central address. Check the tariff displayed, ask for the meter to be used and request a receipt.

A taxi is most useful for several travellers sharing the cost, heavy luggage, limited mobility, accommodation away from the train and bus stops, or an arrival after public transport finishes.

Pre-booked transfers and app-based chauffeur cars

Aena also lists app-based vehicles with designated airport pickup areas. The current airport guidance places one pickup zone in Priority Parking T3 on Floor 0 and another in the Arrivals Car Park on Floor 0. Follow the instructions in your confirmed booking because the meeting point can differ by service.

Prices and waiting times are shown by the booking service and can change with demand. Compare the final quote with the taxi tariff, confirm that the destination address is correct, and check whether waiting time, child seats or extra luggage carry separate charges. Best option based on your needs

• Choose the train for the lowest published fare, the shortest official centre time and freedom from road traffic.
• Choose the bus when Paseo del Parque is more convenient than Centro-Alameda or María Zambrano.
• Choose a taxi for a direct drop-off, especially when sharing the cost or carrying several bags.
• Choose a pre-booked/app-based car when you want pickup instructions and a price quote before meeting the driver.

Before leaving the arrivals hall, compare the stop with your exact accommodation address. “City centre” can mean different neighbourhoods, and a cheap transfer followed by a long walk may not be the best option with luggage.
