What Mumbai to London business class actually costs, airline by airline
A Mumbai to London business class ticket costs anywhere from about $2,200 to more than $4,100 one-way, depending on the airline. That’s based on real fares from Wego, sampled 7 August 2026.
We searched a round trip departing 15 September 2026 and returning seven nights later, business class, one adult, and took each airline’s lowest published fare.
The table below shows one-way pricing (half the round trip) so it’s easier to compare against what you’ll see when you search your own dates.

Is the nonstop flight actually worth a premium?
Conventional wisdom says a direct flight always costs more than a connection. On this route, our sample day says otherwise.
Air India‘s nonstop Boeing 787-9 priced at $2,440, but Etihad’s one-stop service through Abu Dhabi undercut it at $2,247, about 9% cheaper despite the extra stop. Virgin Atlantic’s nonstop sat at $2,798, roughly in the middle of the one-stop pack.
Connections are not automatically the budget option either. Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines, both one-stop, were the two most expensive fares we found on the sample day, well above every nonstop carrier except British Airways.
The honest takeaway: on Mumbai to London, the gap between airlines matters far more than the gap between nonstop and one-stop. Compare specific airlines on your dates rather than assuming a connection will save you money.
If your priority is minimising travel time, Air India, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are your only nonstop options, each around 10 hours 30 minutes to 10 hours 40 minutes outbound. Every Gulf and European connecting itinerary adds a layover of two to six hours on top of that.
Search this route on almost any flight engine and the cheapest “business class” result will be IndiGo’s nonstop Boeing 787 service, priced around $723 to $969 one-way in our samples. IndiGo calls this cabin “IndiGo Stretch” — it’s a recliner seat with extra legroom, not a lie-flat bed.
It doesn’t compare to the lie-flat suites sold by Air India, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic or the Gulf carriers. There’s also a second catch: IndiGo is ending this Boeing 787 service on 25 October 2026, when the lease on its aircraft runs out, and does not expect to resume until its own A350s arrive in 2027.
Our own searches found no IndiGo Mumbai–London business fares for any date from November 2026 onward, consistent with that pause. Use the true lie-flat fares in the table above as your budget baseline instead of the recliner headline number.
What you actually get in the cabin
Price is only half the comparison. The airlines with genuine lie-flat business seats on this route differ in comfort and privacy.
- Air India flies its newest Boeing 787s, with new lie-flat suites rolled out from 2026, on this route.
- British Airways uses its newer Club Suite — a lie-flat seat with a privacy door — on its Heathrow flights, including Mumbai.
- Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class is a comfortable lie-flat seat, though without a privacy door.
- Etihad and Emirates also sell genuine lie-flat business seats through their Gulf hubs. Etihad is worth a look since it was the cheapest true business fare in our sample.
The cheapest and priciest months to fly
We repeated the search for a representative mid-month, seven-night round trip in every month we could book, from September 2026 through July 2027.
Most airline booking systems do not open inventory more than about eleven months ahead, so August 2027 fares were not yet available on our sample date.

At current exchange rates, roughly ₹95.2 to the US dollar as of 6 August 2026, the cheapest true business fare of $2,247 works out to about ₹213,900 one-way, and the priciest at $4,145 to about ₹394,600 one-way.
How to bring the price down
- Check Etihad and Air India before assuming a connection is cheaper. Our sample showed Etihad’s one-stop fare beating Air India’s nonstop, but the gap was small and both changed daily.
- Search every departure time on your date. Identical business cabins can be priced very differently on different departures the same day.
- Avoid December if your dates are flexible. It priced highest in our monthly sample by a clear margin.
- Confirm the actual cabin and seat type before booking. “Business” on a search engine can mean IndiGo’s recliner Stretch product as easily as a lie-flat suite.
- Compare Gatwick and Heathrow arrivals. Some Emirates and Qatar Airways itineraries land at Gatwick rather than Heathrow, which can change your onward transport into central London.
- Recheck Gulf-connecting itineraries closer to your travel date. Routings via Doha, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Kuwait City have faced occasional disruptions in 2026 tied to regional airspace conditions.

Which airlines fly nonstop from Mumbai to London?
Air India, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic all fly nonstop between Mumbai and London Heathrow with genuine lie-flat business seats. IndiGo also flies nonstop, but its “business” seat is a recliner, not a lie-flat bed.
Is Air India’s business class on this route the newer A350 cabin?
Usually not. Air India’s Airbus A350s fly mainly out of Delhi. Mumbai-Heathrow gets the airline’s newest Boeing 787-9s, which have new lie-flat suites rolled out from 2026 — a strong product in its own right.
Does Virgin Atlantic still fly Mumbai to London?

Not yet. The airport added international flights during 2026 but has no London route as of this writing, though it may add long-haul capacity that eases Mumbai’s constraints over time.
