OCI renewal after a new passport
The single mandatory physical renewal happens once, i.e., when you obtain your first new passport after completing 20 years of age. This re-issue captures your adult facial features on the new card and costs USD 25, plus a USD 3 ICWF charge if you apply in the United States.
Outside that one trigger, every other passport renewal requires only an online update with a copy of your new passport and a recent photo, free of cost — provided you act within three months.
OCI renewal at age 20
Up to age 20, OCI cardholders must upload their new passport details and a recent photo to the OCI Miscellaneous Services portal each time a new passport is issued. There is no fee, and no new card is printed — the existing card stays valid.
