Oman Long Weekends 2026 and 2027 Travel Plan: Where to Go and Stay?

National Day, Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 November 2026: four days off for no annual leave, and the only window on this page whose dates are already announced rather than decreed or waiting on a sighting.

Because Oman runs two calendars and they disagree on purpose. Royal Decree 88/2022 fixes the occasions and their length, and for the non-religious ones it fixes the date too. Separately, the Council of Ministers approved a policy of publishing the actual days off at the start of each Gregorian year, and that calendar routinely moves a fixed holiday onto a working day so it makes a long weekend. National Day is decreed for 20 and 21 November, and the 2025 days off were Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 November. Accession Day is decreed for 11 January, and it was observed on Sunday 12 January 2025 and Thursday 15 January 2026. The decree also owes a compensating day where a holiday lands on the weekend. None of this is a loophole: it is Oman deliberately engineering its own long weekends, and it is why the planner above has a decreed setting and a scheduled one instead of a single date.

Both, and the difference is the whole point. Royal Decree 15/2025 amended Royal Decree 88/2022 to set National Day on 20 and 21 November, moving it from the 18th and 19th. In 2026 those two dates are a Friday and a Saturday, so on the decree alone National Day 2026 is worth nothing at all: both days are already the weekend, and the decree owes you one compensating day whose date it does not name. The days actually off are Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 November 2026, which with the weekend after makes four days. Seven occasions to the end of 2027, which is fewer than Bahrain or Kuwait, but Oman’s are longer. Royal Decree 88/2022 runs Eid al-Fitr from 29 Ramadan to 3 Shawwal and Eid al-Adha from 9 to 12 Dhu al-Hijjah, so the Eid al-Fitr holiday starts before Eid does, and National Day is two days. The Hijri New Year, the Prophet’s Birthday, Isra and Mi’raj and Accession Day are one day each. On the employment side, Article 79 of the Labour Law, Royal Decree 53/2023, entitles a worker to their gross wage on the official holidays, and Article 77 guarantees a weekly paid rest of no less than two consecutive days. That last point matters: Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait all guarantee or name only one weekly rest day, so Oman’s two-day weekend has a firmer footing than its neighbours’. Article 78 sets annual leave at no less than 30 days, and official holidays are separate from it.

Eid al-Adha: six days off for no annual leave, Monday 17 to Saturday 22 May 2027, and nine days for a single leave day on Sunday 16 May, which stretches it back to Friday 14. It is also the one window where the decree and the schedule agree, because none of its four days touches the weekend, so there is no compensating day owed and nothing for the annual calendar to move. Eid al-Fitr is the other big one: five days off for no leave on the decreed span, six once the compensating day for the Friday inside it lands, and nine if you spend two leave days on the Sunday and Monday before. The January pair is the sleeper. On the decreed dates, Isra and Mi’raj on Wednesday 6 January and Accession Day on Monday 11 January are two single days five days apart, and two leave days join them into six. The catch is that the two days you would spend leave on, the Thursday and the Sunday, are exactly where Oman’s recent habit would put the holidays anyway.

Further than a hub Muscat’s size suggests. This page prices nineteen nonstop destinations across four travel-time bands, and every band sells a nonstop in every one of the four windows. Over five hours, which really wants the six-day Eid al-Adha window rather than a four-day one, you have Istanbul, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Manila. Of the destinations checked, Bengaluru and Kathmandu sell no nonstop from Muscat on these dates at all, and Zanzibar was left off despite Oman Air flying it, because the outbound came back at seven hours against a five-hour timetable and a five-hour twenty return, which is not a nonstop however it is labelled.

No, and they are the one thing Oman’s advance calendar deliberately leaves out. Both Eids are announced by the Main Committee for Determining the Start of Hijri Months on the sighting, so the annual calendar names every other holiday and stops at those two. What Royal Decree 88/2022 does fix is the span: four days for Eid al-Adha and 29 Ramadan to 3 Shawwal for Eid al-Fitr. That second one is why Eid al-Fitr here starts on Tuesday 9 March 2027 rather than Monday the 8th: 29 Ramadan is the 8th if Ramadan runs 30 days and the 9th if it runs 29, so the 9th is covered either way and the 8th is upside this page does not count.
