Most PIA tickets are non-refundable in cash. Only fully flexible Economy fares and Business (Executive) fares can be canceled for a refund, and even then a cancellation charge applies.
What every passenger gets back is unused airport taxes, plus a full refund of the unused ticket if PIA cancels your flight or delays it by more than five hours. Here is how Pakistan International Airlines handles refunds and fare rules in 2026. Compare current fares on PIA’s page on Wego.
PIA fare types and what each one includes
PIA flies Economy and Executive (Business) cabins. Within Economy, your booking class sets how flexible the ticket is and whether it can be refunded.
Economy carry-on is 7 kg (12 kg in Executive), and most fares earn Awards +Plus miles. The table compares the rest.
| Fare | Checked bag | Seat selection | Changes | Refundability | Awards +Plus miles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Economy Saver | Varies by route; confirm at booking | Paid | Charge plus fare difference | Non-refundable; taxes only | Earns at base rate |
| Economy Flexible | Varies by route; confirm at booking | Often included | Free change on some international fares if booked before the deadline, then a fee | Refundable, minus a charge | Earns at higher rate |
| Executive (Business) | Higher allowance; varies by route | Included | Most flexible, lowest fee | Refundable, minus a charge | Earns the most |
Allowances and charges vary by route and fare rule; the structure above reflects PIA’s published rules as of June 2026.
PIA change and cancellation charges
PIA does not publish a single flat fee. Your charge depends on the fare class, the route, and how close to departure you cancel.
The exact amount is set in your fare rule at booking. The table below shows the charge by fare type.
| Fare type | Cancellation / refund charge |
|---|---|
| Economy Saver and promotional | Non-refundable. Only unused airport taxes and government fees are returned. |
| Economy Flexible | Refundable to your original payment, minus the cancellation charge set in the fare rule. |
| Executive (Business) | Refundable to your original payment, minus a cancellation charge — usually the lowest of the cabins. |
Proximity to departure matters most. On a refundable fare, cancelling within 24 hours of departure carries a charge of at least 10% of the fare, and the same 10% minimum applies to the refund.
For date changes, many international fares include one free change if you request it early enough.
- Economy: free date change when made more than 7 days before departure on UK–Pakistan routes.
- Executive and Premium Economy: free date change when made more than 3 days before departure.
- After that, a Change of Booking fee plus any fare difference applies.
Rebooking onto a cheaper flight does not refund the difference. A no-show on a refundable fare is charged the higher of the applicable penalties, and missing one segment can cancel the rest of your itinerary.
Exact figures vary by country and route. Check the country-wise Booking Conditions and Penalties on piac.com.pk or the PIA app for your ticket.
Refundable vs non-refundable: what it really means
By default a PIA economy ticket returns only taxes. Refunds apply to flexible and Business fares, and go back to your original payment method minus the charge.
What you can always claim
- Unused airport taxes and government fees, even on a non-refundable fare.
- A fee waiver in cases of serious illness or the death of a passenger or immediate family member, with valid documentation.
When PIA owes you a full refund
If PIA cancels your flight, you are entitled to a full refund of the unused ticket, wherever you booked it.
PIA’s Air Passenger Rights also state that if a delay runs beyond five hours and you choose not to travel, you can take a full refund. For shorter delays, the airline serves meals and, when necessary, hotel accommodation.
How to cancel a PIA ticket or claim a refund
If you booked directly with PIA, do this online through Manage Booking, which also shows your ticket and PNR status.
- Open Manage Booking on piac.com.pk, enter your booking reference and surname, and select your itinerary.
- Cancel the booking and submit the refund request shown on screen.
- If you booked through a travel agent or a PIA office, process the cancellation and refund through that same channel.
- For help, call PIA on 111 786 786 in Pakistan or +92 21 111 786 786 from overseas.
Online refunds usually take a few working days, longer in busy periods, so keep your refund reference. If PIA canceled your flight, our PIA flight cancellation and rebooking guide covers what to do next.
