Sydney to London Nonstop: Qantas Launches the World’s Longest Flight in 2027

Last updated: Jun 22, 2026

For decades, flying from Australia’s east coast to Europe meant a stop along the way. That changes in 2027.

Qantas has confirmed the world’s longest nonstop flight — Sydney to London — launching that October.

The Route: Sydney to London Without a Stop

Qantas will fly Sydney to London nonstop, daily, from October 2027 — the first time the famous “Kangaroo Route” between Australia’s east coast and the UK will be flown without any stop.

The journey covers more than 16,000 km in a single hop, taking roughly 19 to 22 hours. Today that trip almost always breaks in a hub like Singapore or Dubai; the nonstop removes that stop entirely.

At that distance it overtakes Singapore Airlines‘s Singapore–New York service (about 15,349 km) to become the longest scheduled passenger flight in the world.

Qantas says the nonstop will cut up to four hours off today’s one-stop travel time. The flights use a specially modified Airbus A350-1000ULR (ultra-long-range) fitted with an extra fuel tank for the distance, configured with just 238 seats across four cabins — including economy, making it the world’s longest economy-class flight too.

When Tickets Go on Sale and What’s Next

Tickets are expected to go on sale in February 2027, with the first flights operating from October 2027. CEO Vanessa Hudson, referring to the airline’s 2017 promise, said: “From October 2027, that promise becomes reality.”

SydneyLondon is only the first. Qantas has confirmed Sydney to New York as the next nonstop route, with timing still to be announced.
