Fleet and aircraft
Qatar Airways flies a mixed Airbus and Boeing widebody fleet built around the A350-900, A350-1000, A380, Boeing 777 and Boeing 787, plus A320-family jets on regional and short-haul routes.
The carrier is in the middle of a large renewal. It holds firm orders for 130 Boeing 787s and 30 777-9s, with options for 50 more combined across both types, after cancelling a 2022 order for up to 50 Boeing 737 MAX 10s in 2025. A separate order covers 50 Airbus A321-family jets, 40 A321neos and 10 A321LRs, with deliveries beginning in 2026.
Starlink high-speed WiFi is now live on more than 140 widebody aircraft. The rollout is complete across the A350, 777 and 787-8 fleets, and the airline is targeting its full widebody fleet by the end of 2026.
Hubs, network and route map
Qatar Airways is built around Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, and almost every flight starts or ends there.
For the financial year to 31 March 2026 the airline reported a network of 183 destinations across six continents, having added or resumed cities including Aleppo, Canberra, Hail, Kigali, Malta and Red Sea during the year. Codeshare partners now number 37 airlines, with new links to Air Algérie and Kenya Airways and a joint venture with Virgin Australia.
Regional disruption has since forced a rebuild, so treat that 183 as an annual-report figure rather than a live one. Qatar Airways is currently flying to just over 160 destinations, around 85 percent of pre-crisis levels, and 13 destinations including Malta and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen stay suspended through winter 2026/27. Check that your city is actually served before planning around it.

Cabins and onboard product
Qatar Airways flies Economy and Business on most of its network, with First Class offered only on the Airbus A380. That fleet was grounded in April 2026 and has only partly returned, so First Class is currently bookable on a handful of routes rather than across the A380 network, and a new First Class cabin is planned for the Boeing 777-9.
Business Class is built around Qsuite, a fully enclosed suite that on many aircraft can be joined into a double bed or a four-seat group for families travelling together. A next-generation Qsuite has been unveiled but is not yet flying; its debut is now planned on the Airbus A350-1000 in the second half of 2026.
The airline has repeatedly topped Skytrax’s World Airline Awards, including a record ninth World’s Best Airline title in 2025, and it was ranked first among full-service carriers in AirlineRatings.com’s 2026 global list.
Baggage allowance and check-in
Baggage rules depend on the route and fare. On most routes Qatar Airways uses a weight concept: Economy Lite allows one bag up to 20kg, Economy Classic 25kg, Economy Convenience 30kg and Economy Comfort 35kg, while every Business fare gets 40kg.
On flights to and from Africa or the Americas it switches to a piece concept instead. Economy Lite gets one bag up to 23kg and the other Economy fares get two, with Business allowed two bags of up to 32kg each. Silver, Gold and Platinum members of Privilege Club get an extra allowance on top, varying by tier and route, though entry-level Burgundy does not.
Power banks have their own rule as of 18 June 2026: a maximum of two per passenger, each 100Wh or under, carried in the cabin and kept accessible rather than in the overhead bin, with no in-flight charging and none in checked baggage.
Online check-in opens 48 hours before departure and closes 90 minutes before the flight through qatarairways.com or the mobile app, though for flights to and from the United States it opens 24 hours before departure instead. Airport check-in counters close earlier, so travellers connecting through Doha should check the counter cut-off time on their boarding pass rather than assume it matches their onward flight.
Loyalty programme: Privilege Club
Qatar Airways’ frequent flyer programme, Privilege Club, has four tiers: Burgundy, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Members earn Avios on flights and Qpoints toward tier status, needing 150 Qpoints for Silver, 270 for Gold and 540 for Platinum within a 12-month period. Avios are the spendable currency, redeemable for flights, seat upgrades, extra baggage and Qatar Duty Free purchases.
Qatar Airways has belonged to the oneworld alliance since 30 October 2013, the first Gulf carrier to join a global alliance, which lets Privilege Club members earn and redeem across partners including British Airways and Cathay Pacific.
