Hamad International Airport baggage rules
Qatar’s Hamad International Airport website provides important information regarding baggage rules and regulations for passengers arriving, transferring, or departing from the airport. Here’s a concise summary of the key points.
- security check: Upon arriving at the airport, your hand baggage will undergo a security screening before proceeding to the baggage claim area. Prohibited items, such as weapons, firearms, ammunition, alcoholic beverages, pork products, and narcotic drugs, will be confiscated and cannot be retrieved
- customs: After collecting your checked baggage, you’ll pass through Customs. There are two channels: the Green Channel for passengers with “Nothing to declare” and the Red Channel for those with “Something to declare.” Items that must be declared include alcoholic beverages, exceeding permitted limits of foreign currency, jewelry, precious stones, prohibited and restricted weapons and firearms, illicit materials, carrying more than 400 cigarettes, and personal items and gifts exceeding QAR 3,000 (USD 825) in value. If requested by a customs officer, you must disclose any currency, jewelry, or precious stones in your possession. Failure to comply may lead to confiscation and legal consequences
- taxes and duties: Depending on the items you bring into Qatar, you might be required to pay taxes or duties
- priority processing: Al Maha customers, special assistance travelers, and unaccompanied minors receive priority processing when departing from Hamad International Airport
- lost and found: If you forget or misplace any items during the security check, refer to the airport’s lost and found office to receive assistance in retrieving them

Qatar baggage allowance by airlines
Kindly note that the baggage allowance is subject to variation based on the airline you select for your journey to Qatar. Below, we present a concise overview of the baggage allowance for airlines operating flights to Qatar.
Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways is the national carrier of Qatar and one of the leading airlines in the world, offering flights to over 160 destinations across six continents. Customized to cater to travelers’ needs, the baggage allowance of this airline encompasses both the weight and piece concepts.
The weight concept permits you to check in multiple bags, provided each bag adheres to the designated weight limit for your class. On the other hand, the piece concept allows you to check in a certain number of bags, each with its own weight limit.
In most cases, the weight concept is applicable. However, when traveling to and from the Americas and Africa or for flights into Africa, the piece concept is enforced.
Nevertheless, it is essential to remember that baggage allowances can differ based on your chosen route and cabin class. Thus, verifying the precise regulations on your ticket before your departure is crucial.
