Qatar health card benefits

Qatar health card is a card which allows its holder to access health services at any of the Hamad Medical Corporation’s healthcare facilities and hospitals. This driving-license-sized card contains the holder’s ID number, nationality, photo and date of issuance. Any Qatar citizen or resident may apply for this card.

Whether they have their own private insurance or not, the holders of Qatar health cards are entitled to these benefits:

  • Free consultations, blood tests, surgeries and medication for physical or mental health
  • Subsidy for some consultations or non-emergency treatments
  • Filled prescriptions at a government-run pharmacy at subsidized rates

Qatar health card requirements

Qatar citizens and residents may apply for this card. However, the documents required to apply for the card depend on the status of the applicants.

Qatari adults:

  • copies of passport or ID
  • passport-sized photo (4cm x 3cm)

Qatari children:

  • birth certificate with Qatar personal identity number or passport
  • passport-sized photograph
  • vaccination card (for first-time issuance)

Adult residents who are GCC nationals:

  • copy of passport or ID with Qatar personal identity number
  • passport-sized photograph
  • old health card (in case of renewals)

Children of GCC nationals:

  • birth certificate or passport with Qatar personal identity number
  • one passport-sized photo
  • vaccination card (for first-time issuance for children born in Qatar)
  • old health card (in case of renewals)

Adult expat residents:

  • Valid QID or passport with a valid residence permit
  • passport-sized photo

Children of expat residents:

  • Passport with a valid residence permit
  • passport-sized photo
  • vaccination card (for first-time issuance and for those born in Qatar or who had their vaccinations in Qatar)

Domestic staff:

  • Valid passport with a valid residence permit
  • Passport-sized photo
  • Original QID of the sponsor

It is also required for all applicants to show a copy of their utility bill (phone, water and electricity) to prove where they live.

Applying for a Qatar health card is a simple and straightforward process.

You can do it online or offline. Simply follow the steps below to acquire your Qatar health card:

Qatar health card application offline (Through PHCC)

  1. Visit the nearest Primary Health Care Centre
  2. Fill in the healthcare application form
  3. Submit the required documents
  4. Pay the required fee
  5. Collect the health card

Qatar health card application online (Through Nar’aakom)

  1. Download Nar’aakom mobile app from App Store or Google Play Store
  2. Open the app after it has been downloaded, and then select the preferred language
  3. Sign up or login using National Authentication System (Tawtheeq)
  4. Select “E-Services”
  5. Select “Apply for Health Card”
  6. Fill-up all the required details
  7. Upload the required documents
  8. Follow further instructions

Please note the following things when you apply for the health card:

  1. You can call the helpline on 107 to find the nearest health care centre if you are not sure where to find it
  2. Health cards cards can only be issued during morning working hours (7.30 AM until 2 PM) in the health care office
  3. Workers have to submit the applications to the Hamad Health Card Printing Office through the company PRO (Mandoob)

Qatar health card fees

The costs to issue a Qatar health card vary, depending on the category of the applicants:

  • Expatriate residents (adult or children) – QR 100
  • Qatari citizens (adult or children) – QR 50
  • GCC citizens (adults or children) – QR 50
  • Domestic workers – QR 50

Children born in Qatar are exempt from any medical facility fee for the first year.

Qatar health card validity

Qatar health card is valid for one year and can be renewed annually. No penalty is applied if the holders do not renew the card.

The holders of Qatar health card can renew their health card validity for another year from the Hukoomi website.

Expired card renewal

Online

You can follow the step below:

  1. Visit the Hukoomi website
  2. Input the card information
  3. Fill-up the application form
  4. Pay the fee

If the old card is still in a good condition, it will be used again after renewal.

Offline

You can also renew your Qatar health cards by visiting either a Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) facility or the nearest Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) center to your residence. Offline renewal can only be done during the morning working hours.

You need to bring the below-mentioned documents for your offline health card renewal.

  • Valid QID
  • Expired health card
  • Credit or debit card
  • Cash (few centers do not have card facility)

Lost or damaged card renewal

Hamad Medical Corporation provides renewal services for lost or damaged cards. The instructions are as follows:

Online Instructions

  • Fill out the online form by entering all the required information.
  • Enter Qatari ID number and select “Renew (Update Expiry Date)” in the “Card Information” page, then click on “Next”
  • Select “Number of Required Years” to renew the card and enter telephone number in the “Application Form” page
  • Enter your email if you select “Yes” to receive the receipt voucher by email
  • Enter cell phone number if you select “Yes” to receive SMS notification
  • Click on “Next” to move to the “Payment Details” page, then click on “Pay”
  • Pay appropriate fees and submit your application

Offline Instructions

  • Visit any HMC facility or a health center affiliated to the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC)
  • Submit the following documents:
    • Qatari Nationals: Copy of valid ID or passport, and passport-size photo (4cmx3cm)
    • GCC Nationals: QID Copy with Qatar personal identity number and old health card (in case of damage)
    • Residents: QID copy valid residence permit and ld health card (in case of damage)
    • Domestic Staff: QID copy with valid residence permit, ld health card and original QID of sponsor
  • Pay the fees

The fees for card renewals for the damaged or lost cards are different. Here are the fees:

  • Qatari adults and children: QR50 for valid health card and QR100 for expired one
  • GCC nationals, whether adults or children: QR100 for valid health card and QR200 for expired one
  • Residents, whether adults or children: QR100 for valid health card and QR200 for expired one

Qatar health card application status check

You can visit the Hukoomi website to check your application status. You are required to enter your QID number to proceed.

Qatar health card expiry check

Qatar health card expiry information is not provided on the card. You have to check it to the system by yourself. These are the steps to check your card expiry:

Online card expiry check

  • Fill out the online form entering all the required information
  • Enter your Qatari QID number and select “Check Expiry”
  • Click on “Next” so that the details are displayed

Offline card expiry check

  • Visit any HMC facility or a health center affiliated to the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC)
  • Provide required information and inquire about the expiry of a health card
