Qatar’s emergency visa extension for travellers stranded by the early-2026 Middle East airspace closure has ended.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that the temporary extension of all expired or soon-to-expire entry visas — first issued on 3 March 2026 — officially ended on Sunday, 7 June 2026.
From that date, normal immigration rules have resumed. Standard validity periods, renewal requirements, and the usual fees now apply to every visa category, and overstay penalties are back in force.
What This Means If You’re Still in Qatar
The automatic, fee-free extension no longer applies. If your entry visa has expired, you are expected to act now to avoid penalties.
The Ministry of Interior has urged residents, visitors, and all concerned parties to do one of the following:
- Renew your visa within the standard timeframe and pay the applicable fee.
- Settle any outstanding fines.
- Or leave the country before your visa expires.
Failure to comply may result in overstay penalties and other legal consequences under Qatari law.
Standard Overstay Penalties (Now Back in Effect)
With the emergency waiver gone, Qatar’s normal overstay rules apply again:
- QAR 200 per day from the first day your visa is expired.
- A maximum cap of QAR 12,000 regardless of how long you overstay.
- You cannot exit Qatar without settling outstanding fines at immigration.
How to Extend Your Visa Now
Standard extensions are once again chargeable and must be applied for. A tourist visa can be extended once for 30 days (60 days total), at QAR 200 per month, through the MOI portal or the Metrash2 app.
You’ll typically need a passport with at least six months’ validity, your current visa, proof of an onward or return flight, and a completed application form. Processing usually takes one to two working days.
How to Check Your Visa Status
Confirm your current status and any fines before you travel to the airport. You can check through two channels:
- MOI Portal — go to Visa Services, then Visit Visa Extension, and enter your passport and visa details.
- Metrash2 App — log in with your MOI credentials and check your visa validity under the Visa Extension section.
If you can’t check online, contact the MOI or visit the nearest immigration services centre in Doha.
Can You Leave Qatar Now?
Yes. Qatar Airways has rebuilt its network since the early-2026 disruption and is operating normally from Hamad International Airport.
If your original flight was cancelled during the closure, check your rebooking or refund options directly at qatarairways.com/rebooking-options or via the Qatar Airways app. Do not travel to the airport without a valid, confirmed ticket.
