After sunset, travelers step into the open, white expanse where the salt gleams silver and folk dancers spin in bright, embroidered costumes.
Somewhere, in between the folksy rhythm and rhyme, chai simmers and camel bells jingle in the dark, and one of India’s quietest landscapes comes alive with the sound of music.
While you’re there, don’t miss the iconic hot-air balloon ride at sunrise for a breathtaking view of the white desert. You can also enjoy traditional camel cart rides, thrilling ATV adventures, and dedicated stargazing sessions.
Road Through Heaven

A few kilometers from Dhordo, the Road Through Heaven cuts straight across the Rann like a black ribbon through blinding white.
On both sides, salt stretches to the horizon, mixing with the sky above. The drive feels weightless, as if you’re moving through light itself. Aboard the drive at sunrise or sunset, when the desert glows rose golden to feel like you are part of a dream.
Why this season matters
The Rann’s beauty peaks between late November and January, when moonlight washes the flats white. Full-moon nights make the desert reflect the luminous glow of a slice of heaven.

- Dates: From 1 December 2025 to 28 February 2026.
- How to get there: Fly to Bhuj from anywhere in India or to Ahmedabad if you are flying in from elsewhere. From Bhuj, you can hire a pre-paid taxi or arrange for a transfer with your Tent City booking to reach Dhordo.
- Permits: If you are an Indian citizen, you will need an official permit to visit the Rann of Kutch. These can be easily obtained online in advance or in person at the Bhujodi checkpost on your way to Dhordo.
- Stay: Book official Rann Utsav tents in the Tent City in advance for a comfortable stay.
