Fleet and aircraft
Royal Air Maroc flew its summer 2026 schedule with 67 aircraft, and reached 68 on 31 July 2026 when its thirteenth Boeing 787 Dreamliner arrived in Casablanca, the largest fleet in its history. The fleet mixes Boeing 737-800s and 737 MAX 8s for short and medium-haul routes, Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners for long haul, Embraer E190s on thinner regional routes, and ATR72s flown by its regional subsidiary Royal Air Maroc Express on domestic hops.
The airline has been adding 737 MAX aircraft on lease through 2026 and taking delivery of further Dreamliners, including pre-owned 787-8s such as one former Xiamen Airlines aircraft repainted into Royal Air Maroc livery.
Under its 2023-2037 development agreement with the Moroccan government, the airline has repeatedly stated an ambition to grow toward roughly 200 aircraft by 2037, a target set against Morocco’s ambition of drawing 65 million visitors by 2037, and one the airline and Moroccan ministers have since framed around the country’s role in the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
That 2037 figure is a stated long-range plan. The delivered fleet is far smaller today, and it is worth keeping the two separate when reading airline announcements.
As of August 2026 the big order behind that target is still not signed. Royal Air Maroc’s tender for 188 aircraft, budgeted at around 25 billion US dollars and reported to cover up to 50 Boeing 737 MAX, further 787s and about 20 Airbus A220s, remains unawarded, with Embraer regional jets still under discussion. Every aircraft joining the fleet so far has arrived through leases and small tranche deliveries. The airline expects to be at 74 aircraft by the end of 2026 and 88 by the end of 2027.
Hubs, network and route map
Royal Air Maroc’s hub is Casablanca Mohammed V Airport (CMN), from which it flies to destinations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.
The summer 2026 programme covered 86 international destinations, and 2026 has been a year of steady network growth, with the airline adding new direct routes from Casablanca including Los Angeles, Verona and Lille alongside earlier additions to Pointe-Noire, Tripoli, Beirut, Alicante, Bilbao and Palma de Mallorca.
Casablanca is no longer the only story. On 27 March 2026 Royal Air Maroc turned Tetouan Sania R’mel into a full regional base, flying point to point to Paris Charles de Gaulle, London Gatwick, Brussels, Barcelona, Madrid and Malaga without routing through the hub. Point-to-point capacity crossed 890,000 seats this summer, up 37 percent.
Casablanca Mohammed V is being rebuilt around the airline. Morocco awarded a contract worth close to MAD 12 billion to a consortium of SGTM and TGCC for a new H-shaped terminal, part of a wider $1.55 billion programme that lifts the airport toward 20 million passengers a year and adds a 3,700-metre parallel runway and a new control tower. The terminal is due to open in 2029, with a station on the Al Boraq high-speed line.
Europe remains the backbone of the network, with 44 destinations and more than 3 million seats, weighted toward countries with large Moroccan communities, while the Los Angeles route gives the airline its first foothold on the US West Coast and sits alongside existing nonstop service to New York.
Cabins and onboard product
Royal Air Maroc sells two cabins on its widebody Dreamliners: business class with lie-flat seating, and economy. Two of its 787-9s came second-hand with a separate premium economy cabin still fitted, and Royal Air Maroc sells those rows as economy.
Configurations vary by aircraft: the 26-seat 787-9 business cabin carries lie-flat seats with roughly 80 inches of pitch and 22 inches of width, while newer-generation 787-9s use Collins Aerospace reverse-herringbone seats with around 46 inches of pitch and a full 180-degree recline. Economy seating on the Dreamliner fleet runs 31 to 32 inches of pitch.
Short and medium-haul 737s carry a simpler two-class layout without lie-flat seating, reflecting the shorter sector lengths to Europe and North Africa.
Baggage allowance and check-in
Checked baggage allowance on Royal Air Maroc depends on fare type, cabin and route rather than a single flat rule.
On routes between Europe and Morocco, economy passengers typically get one checked bag of up to 23kg, while business class passengers get up to two bags of up to 32kg each. Safar Flyer Silver, Gold and Ambassador members receive an extra piece.
The entry-level Eco Essential fare drops free checked baggage entirely on short and medium-haul flights, though it still includes one 23kg bag on long-haul and transit flights. Maximum linear dimensions per bag are 203cm (height plus width plus length), and each piece is capped at its stated weight individually rather than pooled across bags.
The allowance is more generous everywhere else. On flights to the USA, Canada, Brazil, Africa, the Middle East and China, economy carries one or two pieces of up to 23kg and business carries three pieces of up to 32kg. Qatar is the exception, where business drops to two pieces.
Cabin baggage is simpler. Every passenger gets one cabin bag plus one personal item. The cabin bag can weigh up to 10kg in economy and 12kg in business, and must fit 55 x 40 x 25cm. The personal item is capped at 2kg and 40 x 30 x 15cm, and goes under the seat in front of you, except in emergency exit rows where it has to go overhead.
Online check-in opens 48 hours before departure and closes 2 hours before. At the airport, the counter closes 60 minutes before departure and the boarding gate closes 15 minutes before. Royal Air Maroc asks passengers to arrive 2 hours ahead for domestic flights, 3 hours for short and medium-haul international flights, and 4 hours for long-haul, adding an hour to each during peak periods.
Because allowances differ by route and fare bucket, it is worth checking the exact entitlement shown at booking or on the airline’s own baggage information page before packing.
Loyalty programme
Royal Air Maroc’s frequent flyer programme is Safar Flyer, earning and spending Miles across Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers, plus an Ambassador card that oneworld maps to Sapphire.
Since joining the oneworld alliance on 1 April 2020, Safar Flyer tiers map onto oneworld status: Silver to Ruby, Gold to Sapphire and Platinum to Emerald, giving members oneworld Priority benefits across the alliance: Ruby brings priority check-in and preferred seating, while priority boarding, lounge access and an extra baggage allowance start at Sapphire, and Emerald adds first class lounges and fast track.
Full tier requirements and benefits are listed on oneworld’s Royal Air Maroc member page.
How to contact the airline and manage a booking
Royal Air Maroc handles bookings, seat selection and refund requests directly through its own website and mobile app, and through its call centres and ticket offices in the markets it serves.
Online check-in is the exception: Royal Air Maroc does not offer it on flights to or from the USA, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Canada, the UK, Israel or China, and anyone departing Morocco still has to collect a boarding pass at the counter.
Passengers who booked through a travel agent or another platform should manage changes through that original point of sale first.
Frequently asked questions
What is Royal Air Maroc’s hub airport?
Casablanca Mohammed V Airport (CMN) is Royal Air Maroc’s main hub, and the base from which nearly all of its long-haul and regional network is built.
Is Royal Air Maroc part of an airline alliance?
Yes. Royal Air Maroc has been a member of the oneworld alliance since 1 April 2020, and its Safar Flyer loyalty tiers correspond to oneworld’s Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald status levels.
Does Royal Air Maroc fly nonstop to the United States?
Yes. The airline flies nonstop between Casablanca and New York JFK, and since 7 June 2026 has also flown nonstop between Casablanca and Los Angeles three times a week, the first direct route between Africa and the US West Coast.
How much checked baggage can I bring on Royal Air Maroc?
It depends on your fare and cabin. On routes between Europe and Morocco, economy typically allows one 23kg bag and business allows up to two 32kg bags, but the cheapest Eco Essential economy fare bucket can exclude free checked baggage entirely on short and medium-haul flights, so it pays to check your specific fare’s allowance before flying.
Why does Royal Air Maroc keep announcing new aircraft and routes in 2026?
Royal Air Maroc’s 2023-2037 development agreement with the Moroccan government set the fleet and network build-out against Morocco’s target of 65 million visitors by 2037. Morocco then won hosting rights to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and a share of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, and the airline and the government have framed the expansion around both ever since, including the record summer 2026 schedule of 8.2 million seats across 86 destinations.
