Saudia Flight Cancellation: What to Do If Your Flight Is Cancelled (2026 Guide)

Last updated: Sep 16, 2026

Saudia flights remain on published timetables, but continuing Yemen-related missile and drone threats mean individual services can change at short notice. Current official travel guidance warns of possible flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures and wider travel disruption; it does not announce a nationwide Saudi airport closure.

Check your booking before travelling. See Wego’s regional cancellations tracker, then follow this guide if Saudia changes your flight.

Saudi Arabia airport status: Which airports are open?

Current official travel guidance does not announce an airport-wide closure for Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam or Madinah. Recent Houthi missile and drone attacks have affected southern Saudi locations, including Khamis Mushait, Abha, Jazan and Najran, and have targeted civilian and economic infrastructure.

EASA’s current Saudi Arabia information note advises civil operators to take the risk into account throughout the Jeddah FIR through 30 September. Follow local alerts. If you are told to shelter, go indoors or use the nearest safe building. Choose an interior room with few windows and stay away from military or energy sites.

Airport Status on 10 September What travellers should know
King Khalid International (RUH), Riyadh No airport-wide closure announced Check your booking because regional airspace restrictions can cause short-notice changes.
King Abdulaziz International (JED), Jeddah No airport-wide closure announced Check your booking because individual departures and connections may change.
King Fahd International (DMM), Dammam No airport-wide closure announced Gulf airspace restrictions can affect timings and onward connections.
Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International (MED), Madinah No airport-wide closure announced Check your booking before leaving for the airport.

Southern airports need closer checks. The published timetable checked on 10 September listed Saudia SV1669 from Riyadh to Abha at 10:05 local on Tuesdays through Saturdays until 1 November, and SV1843 from Riyadh to Najran at 06:10 on Sunday 13 September. These are timetable entries, not live movement or seat-availability confirmations; the same lookup did not return a current Riyadh-Jazan entry, which does not prove that Jazan airport or the route is closed.

Saudia’s announcements page does not provide a complete current route-by-route disruption list. Check the regional cancellations tracker and contact Saudia if your booking is unclear.

How to check if your Saudia flight is cancelled

Confirm the booking before leaving for the airport. Do not rely only on an older itinerary or the original departure time.

  • Manage Booking: Open Saudia Manage Booking and enter your booking reference and surname.
  • Saudia app: Open My Trips and check whether the itinerary or departure time has changed.
  • Email and SMS: Check messages sent to the contact details in your booking, including the spam folder.
  • Wego: Compare the details with the Wego Saudia flight tracker.

Your options: Refund, rebook, or reroute

Your options depend on who cancelled or changed the flight, the alternative offered, your ticket and any waiver attached to your booking.

Option When it may apply What to confirm
Alternative flight GACA requires the airline to offer available alternatives after a cancellation. New departure, connections and whether accepting affects compensation.
Full refund You reject the alternative and end the contract after Saudia cancels. Refund amount, paid extras, unused sectors and payment method.
Change under a waiver Saudia attaches flexible terms to your affected booking. Eligible routes, dates, cabin, seat availability, fees and fare difference.

 Your rights under GACA regulations

GACA rules say an airline must offer available alternative flights when it cancels. If you accept one, cancellation compensation does not apply, although delay protections may apply to the time difference.

If you reject the alternatives, you can end the contract and claim the full ticket value plus paid booking extras. Separate compensation depends on when you were notified and may not apply in GACA-approved force majeure cases.

Care includes drinks after one hour, a meal after three hours, and hotel accommodation with airport transport after six hours. Complain to the airline first and keep the reference number before escalating through GACA passenger rights.

How to get a full refund from Saudia

If Saudia cancels your flight and you reject its alternatives, GACA rules allow you to end the contract and receive a full refund, including paid booking extras such as seats or baggage.

The amount for a partly used itinerary can depend on the unused sectors. Ask Saudia or the issuing agent to confirm the calculation before accepting it.

If you booked directly with Saudia

Saudia treats a cancellation or schedule change as an involuntary refund. Its standard ticket refund form warns that fees may apply and directs involuntary cases to the virtual agent.

  1. Open the Saudia virtual agent.
  2. Select “Refund request and status”, then “Request a new refund”.
  3. Choose “Request a refund” and follow the prompts for the affected ticket.
  4. Keep the confirmation and reference number until the money reaches your account.

For a direct credit-card booking, you can also retrieve it through Manage Booking and look for “Cancel and Refund”. Use the virtual agent if the booking is not eligible online or only one ticket needs refunding.

If you booked through a travel agent or third-party site

Contact the agent or platform that issued the ticket. Saudia directs agency bookings back to the seller for changes and refunds. Ask for written confirmation of the request, amount and reference number.

 Refund processing times

  • Regulatory deadline: GACA says the airline must complete the refund or compensation process within 15 days of the related incident.
  • After confirmation: If the money does not appear after Saudia or your agent confirms completion, contact the bank or card issuer with the reference number.

How to rebook your Saudia flight

Free rebooking is not universal. Saudia had not published a September-wide waiver when checked, so eligibility depends on the notice attached to your booking, route, travel dates, fare, cabin and seat availability.

Before accepting a change, ask for the new itinerary, final travel date, change fee and fare difference in writing.

  • Use Saudia Manage Booking or My Trips in the app for a direct booking.
  • Call Saudia if the booking cannot be changed online.
  • Contact the issuing agent or platform for a third-party booking.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to book Saudia flights right now?

Conditions are unpredictable. Australia’s advice, still current on 10 September, says to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia overall and applies higher levels near the Yemen border. Check your government’s advice and whether your insurance remains valid before booking.

Can I get a refund if Saudia cancels my flight?

Yes, if you reject the alternatives and end the contract. GACA rules provide a full ticket refund including paid booking extras. A partly used itinerary may need an individual calculation.

What happens to my booking if disruptions worsen?

Saudia may cancel, reroute or offer another flight. Check the terms sent with your booking. Do not assume that an earlier disruption waiver applies to a September cancellation.

Which Saudia routes are currently operating?

Saudia has not issued a complete current operating-route list. Published timetables include some September services, including Riyadh-Abha, but a timetable is not a live departure confirmation. Check your booking and the Wego Saudia flight tracker, then contact Saudia if unclear.

How long does a Saudia refund take?

GACA sets a 15-day deadline for completing the refund or compensation process after the related incident. Keep the reference and contact your bank if the money is missing after completion.

I booked through a third party. Who do I contact?

Contact the agent or platform that issued the ticket. Saudia directs agency bookings back to the seller for changes and refunds.

Can I use Saudi Arabia as a transit point to leave the Gulf?

Only with a confirmed itinerary and the required documents. No official closure notice was found for Riyadh or Jeddah, but do not travel there as a fallback unless the airline confirms your journey. A transit visa may be required.
