The new labor law significantly enhances benefits for both working mothers and employees working overtime. Key changes include a substantial extension of maternity leave to twelve weeks, providing essential support for new mothers, and the introduction of paid leave as compensation for overtime work, recognizing the value of employees’ extra hours.
Other notable changes include a commitment to equal opportunities for all employees, the introduction of paid bereavement leave for the loss of a sibling, revised training contract guidelines, increased flexibility for non-Saudi workers, and clearly defined probationary periods. Additionally, the law outlines resignation procedures, modifies contract termination notice periods, and addresses contract termination in bankruptcy cases.
By addressing the needs of both employers and employees, the government aims to position the country as a leading destination for investment and talent. The amendments are expected to contribute to a more productive and harmonious workforce, ultimately for the workers in Saudi Arabia.
