Singapore Long Weekends 2026 and 2027: Every Public Holiday and How to Stretch It

Three dates, counting the Monday you get in lieu: Deepavali on Sunday 8 November 2026, the Monday in lieu on 9 November, and Christmas Day on Friday 25 December. Christmas falling on a Friday makes it a clean three-day weekend with no leave at all.

Yes. Section 88(1) of the Employment Act 1968 says every employee is entitled to a paid holiday at their gross rate of pay on a public holiday falling while they are employed. Since April 2019 the Act covers all employees under a contract of service, including managers and executives, and the holiday entitlement in Part 10 applies whatever you earn. Public officers, domestic workers and seafarers sit outside the Act and follow their own terms.

You get the Monday. Section 88(1)(b) says that if a public holiday falls on your rest day, the next working day is a paid holiday, and for the standard Monday to Friday week Sunday is the rest day. That is why the Ministry of Manpower prints the Monday beside Deepavali 2026 and beside the second day of Chinese New Year 2027, and why both become three-day weekends for no leave.

You do not get a substitute Monday, and there is no rule that gives you one. Saturday is not your rest day if you do not work Saturdays: as the Ministry of Manpower puts it, other than the rest day, the other days of the week you do not need to work are not considered rest days. Christmas Day 2026 is a Friday and New Year’s Day is the Friday after it.
