If you’ve been to Marrakesh, you’ll understand how the two founders of Splendia, Elie de Coignac and Benoit Durand, were inspired to open the doors of Morocco’s finest hotels and riads to others around the world with their own hotel booking website, Splendia.com. Travellers loved the novelty of it, encouraging the guys to add more and more unusual properties. These now total 5,000 around the world, all of which are of course comparable in Wego.com.
They are not your ordinary hotels though. These are chic, boutique properties with masses of character, but often very few rooms. With so much choice – Wego features over 350,000 accommodation options – we asked Splendia for recommendations and they have invited us to explore three destinations, their hotels in Bali, Barcelona and Phuket. We took a look and have picked from the many exotic options:
Fivelements Puri Ahimsa, Bali
This is a fabulous, eco-friendly retreat in the traditional design with yoga and meditation, outdoor bathtub, watsu therapy pool and luxury healing centre. For stressed out executives, it could be just the place.
Barcelo Raval, Barcelona
Super-cool Spanish modernity in the historic centre of this ancient city. Enjoy the panoramic views from the rooftop pool and bar. Also, get a picture of the outside of the building in the evening with its purple lighting. No surprise it’s a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice 2012 winner on trendiness!
Villa Zolitude Resort & Spa, Phuket
Tempting private pool villas in the Thai traditional style are tucked away from the crowds in this tranquil spot. With its wrap-around balconies, the villa also boasts panoramic views. You will also notice cooking classes on offer. It’s always a good idea to hang out with the hotel chef and take some recipes home.
Top tip: register with The Club if you make a booking. Selected Splendia properties have exclusive club deals and member benefits offering guests treats like spa vouchers, late check-out and complimentary upgrades.
