Arrival procedure

To make the arrival process at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) easier, follow the steps below. 

  • if you are not a citizen of Taiwan, fill out disembarkation cards and customs declaration forms, which are given out by the aircraft crew during your flight.  the to prepare for the customs inspection.
  • in case such cards and forms are not distributed during your flight, please ask for them at the entry immigration counters.
  • the passengers should present the following documents at the immigration counter if they are Taiwanese citizens: passports and entry disembarkation cards. Foreign travelers need to present the following documents at the immigration counter: passports, visas, tickets, entry disembarkation cards, and customs declaration forms.
  • after the immigration inspection, proceed to the customs inspection lounge to collect your baggage.
  • if you do not want to carry baggage into Taiwan, deposit it at the bonded baggage counters for future claims.

Departure procedure

To make the departure process at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) easier, follow the steps below. 

  • report to your respective airline check-in counter, and submit your ticket, passport, and baggage, if any. 
  • collect your boarding passes, baggage receipts, passport and unused plane ticket and leave the check-in counter once your baggage has passed through the x-ray introspection.
  • move to the immigration counters next and show your passports and boarding passes. 
  • if you are not a Taiwanese citizen, present your original documents, such as passports, boarding passes, and embarkation cards.
  • head towards your boarding gates and enter your respective waiting lounge.

Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) terminals

Before heading to the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), confirming the designated terminal for your flight is essential. Airlines are typically assigned to specific terminals, so ensuring you know the correct one is a must. 

To give you an overview of the facilities and services available, here’s what arriving and departing passengers can expect at terminals 1 and 2. 

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 is the original terminal of the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Inspired by Washington Dulles International Airport, Taiwanese-American structural engineer Tung-Yen Lin constructed the terminal, which opened to the public in 1979. 

At present, Terminal 1 has 18 gates arranged alphabetically. The row of gates is located on the north end of the airfield facing the north runway, and another row is located on the south end airfield facing the south runway.

Two concourses containing the airplane gates are linked together by a main building that contains the check-in areas, baggage claim, passport immigration areas, and security checkpoint areas. Together, they form a giant “H.” 

The north concourse is Concourse A, and the south concourse is Concourse B.

Terminal 2

To distribute air traffic and ease passengers’ journeys in the new millennium, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport opened Terminal 2 in 2000. Terminal 2 now braces over 17 million passengers each year. 

Terminal 2 also has a North Concourse with 20 gates and a South Concourse with 10 gates. The South Concourse is Concourse C, and the North Concourse is Concourse D. Two people mover lines connect Terminals 1 and 2, one from Concourse A to D and the other from B to C.

TPE provides premium lounge services via Plaza Premium Lounge, which is available in both terminals and offers services and facilities like comfortable seating, a variety of international gourmet food and drinks, shower facilities, private suiting rooms, VIP rooms, charger plugs, and Wi-Fi.

Services for passengers with limited mobility

  • TPE has designated parking spaces for people with disabilities, and parking is free for the day for persons registered as disabled in Taiwan. 
  • the airport’s walkways are designed especially to provide wheelchair access to pedestrian walkways and roads. There are designated wheelchair lanes that provide walkways to the Skytrain platforms. 
  • elevators and powered ramps are provided at various locations in the airport.
  • people with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women can rent wheelchairs at the information desk in the Departure Hall; however, this service is only available outside the restricted zone.
  • there are also public telephones installed at reduced heights for easy access by people with disabilities. 


The Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) has two distinct parking zones, each catering separately to domestic and international passenger vehicles. Parking is free for passengers thrice a day for 30 minutes.

If the time exceeds 30 minutes or more than the 3 free times, the fee is charged according to the parking lot’s rates, starting from the time of entrance.

Taoyuan Airport metro

Boarding a metro train is the fastest way to get around, and Taipei Taoyuan International Airport is no different. Taoyuan Airport Metro is a fast and convenient service that is a great choice for international travelers who want to commute between the airport and Taipei.

Taoyuan Airport MRT has an express metro train service that takes 

  • 35 minutes from Taoyuan Airport Terminal 1 to Taipei Main Station  
  • 38 minutes from Terminal 2 to Taipei Main Station.

There is also a commuter service train that stops at all stations and takes only 50 minutes to reach Taipei Main Station from Terminal 1. 

The ticket costs between 0.94 USD to 5 USD, depending on the distance. The fare for taking Express Train and Commuter Train is the same. A ride from the Taipei Main Station to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is 5 USD.

Airport bus 

Taking an airport bus is the cheapest way to commute to and from the airport. Various buses can take you to Taipei Taoyuan International Airport, and they are usually available throughout the day. 

Two of the main airport buses are the CitiAir Bus and Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport. It can take around 60 to 80 minutes to get from the airport to Taipei Main Station. Expect to pay around 4 to 8 USD for the bus fare.

Airport taxi

Taxi services are available on the west side of Terminal 1’s and Terminal 2’s Arrivals Lobby at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 24 hours a day, all year round. 

Taxi fares are based on the meter, and highway tolls are not included. Standard rates apply to fares. It can cost 38 USD to 47 USD to take a taxi from the airport to Taipei Main Station.
