Terminal 2 Hong Kong Airport has been completely rebuilt as a 300,000-square-meter departure hub. The original T2 closed in 2019 for the overhaul, and the new facility is designed to handle around eight million passenger journeys in its first year of operation.

T2’s HKIA smart check-in system lets you handle bag tags, bag drop and boarding passes without queuing at a staffed counter. The 58 self-service kiosks and 68 automated bag-drop units are designed for speed — particularly useful during the summer travel rush to Hong Kong.

How to Get to Terminal 2 Hong Kong Airport
Terminal 2 is directly connected to Hong Kong International Airport’s transport network. You do not need to go through Terminal 1 first.
Airport Express
The Airport Express station platform now serves both terminals — train doors open on both sides. Exit toward the T2 side and you’re directly at the departures level. This remains the fastest way to get from central Hong Kong to the airport (24 minutes from Hong Kong Station).
Airport Buses
Twenty-nine daytime A-Route buses and 17 overnight NA-Route buses operated by Citybus and Long Win Bus now include a T2 stop. Buses call at T2 after stopping at T1, so if you’re headed to the new terminal, stay on until the second stop.
Private Transport and Taxis
T2 has a dedicated drop-off area for taxis, ride-hailing services and private cars. A coach hall serves cross-boundary coaches to destinations in the Greater Bay Area.
Walking Between Terminals
A covered footbridge connects T1 and T2 at the landside level. It’s a comfortable walk of around five minutes if you need to switch between terminals before clearing security.

Food, Shops and Facilities
T2’s departure hall currently offers 20 shopping and dining options, including McDonald’s, Nap Tea and Imperial Patisserie. Four of the eight dining outlets are open around the clock — useful for passengers on late-night or early-morning departures.
The 12 retail shops cover travel essentials and souvenirs. The larger 11 Skies retail and entertainment complex adjacent to T2 is expected to open from 2028 onward.
Lounges and airside facilities remain in Terminal 1 since all boarding gates are still there. After clearing security and immigration at T2, you’ll access lounges, duty-free and gate-area shops via the APM ride to T1.
