The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, in collaboration with The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has announced a new initiative to issue professional cards to translators, Wego reports.

The issuance of these professional cards aims to enhance the business environment and competitiveness of translation firms, aligning with the Oman Vision of 2040. The cards will include comprehensive data that legitimize individual translators, including the translator’s institutional data, license number, and expiration date.

The initiative was formalized on 18 April 2024, when H.E. Dr. Saleh bin Saeed Musan, Undersecretary for Trade and Industry, and H.E. Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, signed a cooperation agreement.

In addition, a new program under The Oman Chamber has been established to manage the financial aspects of this initiative, including the costs of issuing professional cards and providing printing devices. This significant introduction is expected to streamline the organization of translation institutions and create a conducive environment for job seekers in the industry.

Furthermore, a cloud platform with an organized database has been launched to categorize legitimate translators. This platform plays a pivotal role in verifying the authenticity and validity of the cards and the associated information, such as the license and contact details. This allows the relevant authorities to verify the data efficiently via the cloud platform, thereby accelerating the process of accessing information. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the professionalization and regulation of the translation industry in Oman.
