The UAE Labor Card is a crucial document for employees working in the country. Issued by authorized organizations such as the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) or the relevant free zone, the UAE labour card serves as a form of identification and must be carried at all times.

This crucial identity card contains a wealth of information, including the worker’s name, occupation, employer, nationality, expiration date, personal identification number, work permit number, and labour card number. The labour card serves as a fundamental reference point for the worker and their employer, ensuring the smooth operation of the labour market.

Please note, however, that the UAE authorities no longer issue physical labour cards; which means you’ll need to download and print a copy of your labour card as detailed further below.

UAE labour card eligibility

A UAE labour card is required by all employees who are working in the United Arab Emirates, regardless of their nationality or the type of work they are performing. This includes both local and foreign workers who are employed in the country, whether in the public or private sector.

To be eligible for a UAE labour card, both employees and employers must meet certain conditions as detailed below.

For employees:

  • the employee must be at least 18 years of age and not more than 60 years old
  • they must possess the necessary academic qualifications for the job
  • they must pass a medical examination and obtain a certificate from their home country

For employers:

  • employers must keep their records in order and not hold onto expired labour cards
  • the employee’s salary must be in line with their profession
  • employers must ensure that their companies adhere to the procedures set by the Ministry

It’s essential to note that employers have a responsibility to provide their employees with the UAE Labor Card within 60 days of their arrival in the UAE. If the employer fails to do so, they will be held accountable and may face fines.

UAE labour card number check

The UAE labour card number can be found in the following two ways:

  1. Through the official MOHRE app – Android, iOS
  2. By visiting a Tas’heel service centre – Tas’heel centres are an easy way to access the labour card number. Tas’heel centres are located across the UAE, and you can visit one to request the details of your employment, including your labour card number or employment contract copy.

To find your labour card number through the MOHRE application, follow the steps given below:

  • download the MOHRE smartphone application (Android, iOS)
  • log in to the application using your UAE Pass.
  • after this, click on your profile, which will show your photograph along with the title ‘Employee’
  • the app will now show you all the details related to your employment, including your Labour card number, issue date and expiry date.
  • you can also view a digital copy of your labour card by scrolling down and clicking on the ‘View Labour card’ option.

UAE labour card download

As mentioned, the authorities no longer issue physical UAE labour cards. This means in order for you to keep a physical copy, you need to download and print your UAE labour card by following the steps given below:

  • visit the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) website.
  • click on the ‘Services’ at the top of the webpage.
  • select ‘New Enquiry Services’ from the drop-down menu.
  • after this, from the ‘Choose A Service’ section, select the ‘Print Electronic Work Permit’ option.
  • enter your labour card number on the ‘Work Permit No’ tab, and click on search.
  • select the ‘Print’ option on the top right corner, and you will be able to download your UAE labour card.

UAE labour card fees

The cost of issuing and renewing a work permit ranges from AED 250 to AED 3,450, and it depends on the company’s classification. You can find out the complete list of work permit fees here.

UAE labour card expiry

The labor card has a validity of 2 years, but government employees receive a card valid for 3 years. Renewal is possible for the same duration, but only if both the employee and employer agree. To ensure continuous validity, the labor card must be renewed within 50 days after it expires.

As reported by some sources, the fine involved in delaying the submission of a new labour card within 60 days from the date of entry is AED 500.

  • visit the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) website.
  • click on the ‘Services’ at the top of the webpage.
  • select ‘New Enquiry Services’ from the drop-down menu.
  • after this, from the ‘Choose A Service’ section, select the ‘Fine Calculator’ option.
  • enter your labour card number on the ‘Card No’ tab, and click on search.

You will now be able to check your UAE labour card fine.
