As we settle into 2024, it is time to dream about the fabulous new places we can visit next year, take a peek at the public holiday list for 2025 and plan ahead. 

With the Wego 2025 calendar for public holidays, we show you when to plan for longer breaks in the coming year. More long weekends and strategic leaves mean more trips to tick off and experiences to discover!

New Year’s Day (1 January)

The entire world, including the UAE, will also be ringing in the new year of 2025 on Wednesday, 1 January, with a customary day off.

You can extend your weekend by taking leave on Thursday and Friday, 2 January and 3 January 2025, turning it into a five-day holiday

Eid Al Fitr (29 March – 3 April)

For the year 2025, Eid Al Fitr is expected to start on Sunday, 30 March. According to the Islamic Lunar calendar, the Eid holidays will be from Ramadan 29 until Shawwal 3. However, these are tentative dates and will be confirmed later on the basis of moon sightings. 

Arafat Day and Eid al Adha (6 June – 9 June)

Starting Monday, 6 June, residents in the UAE are entitled to a four-day holiday as Arafat Day descends, followed by three-day Eid al Adha celebrations. Expect hotels, resorts, and theme parks to have special offers and discounts to make the most of the celebrations.

Hijri New Year (26 June)

The Islamic or Hijri New Year is set to be celebrated in the UAE on Thursday, 26 June 2025 

Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (4 September)

The birthday of the Prophet Muhammad will be observed as a holiday in the UAE. In  2025, the event will be celebrated at sundown on Thursday, 4 September and end at sundown on Friday, 5 September.

According to the Islamic Lunar calendar, Prophet Muhammad’s birthday is on 12 Rabiʽ al-Awwal, the fourth month of the Islamic calendar. According to the Gregorian Solar calendar, the day varies and depends on the Moon’s sightings. 

Commemoration Day and UAE National Day (1- 3 December)

As is customary, Commemoration Day will be celebrated on 1 December, and the UAE National Day will be celebrated on 2 and 3 December. 

Commemoration Day, previously known as Martyr’s Day, honors the fallen soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the well-being of their country. It is an annual holiday. It was celebrated for the first time in 2015. 

UAE National Day marks the annual celebration of the formation of the United Arab Emirates. Grand celebrations are held all over the country to celebrate the homeland. 

UAE Union Day (2 December)

UAE Union Day is celebrated on 2 December every year to commemorate the day seven Emirates came together in 1971 and decided to live in unity as one nation, marking the start of a new age. 2025 will mark the 54th anniversary of this divine union. 

Other long weekends

The students and employees of academic institutions will have the following days off:

  • UAE spring break – 24 March 2025 – 13 April 2025
  • UAE summer break – 28 June 2025 – 24 August 2025
  • UAE winter break – 5 December 2025 – 4 January 2026
